In actuality, the body only converts ALA to EPA and then to DHA at around a 5 to 10% and 2 to 5% efficiency rate, respectively. The bottom line is that taking a plant-based omega-3 supplement that simply contains ALA is not the same as taking an animal/algae-based omega-3 supplement that already contains EPA and DHA.
