Can you give a dog cbd oil for humans

Is Human CBD Oil Safe For Dogs? A Total Explanation

This is likely because you have your own CBD oil made for human consumption and you wonder if you and your dog can use the same one.

YES, human CBD oil is technically safe for dogs. However, it is highly recommended to give your dog a pet-specific version of CBD oil.

Why is it recommended to give your dog pet-specific formulations? That will be explained, in-depth, in the article below

Can I Give My Dog Human CBD Oil

Technically, yes, you can give your dog human CBD oil. You can give your dog human CBD oil because the endocannabinoid system that humans have is a system that dogs also have. That means it works in the same biological way in dogs that it does in people.

Most mammals also have the same endocannabinoid system. That is why you can technically give your dog CBD oil that is made for human use.

Many pet owners have tried human CBD oil in their pets to see how they react.

CBD Oil Specifically For Dogs

There are CBD oils made for dogs and pets like cats and horses specifically. It helps dogs in much the same way that it helps human beings. It can assist in lowering pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, and anxiety. There are even more health ailments that it can help, too. Studies have shown this to be the case, and that is why there are dogs

How Can I Give My Dog Human CBD Oil?

If you are going to give your dog human CBD oil, it is imperative that you follow dosing instructions as best you can.

Human CBD Oil Dosing For Dogs:

Because CBD is a natural and non-toxic product,
it does not typically hurt a dog to give them too much at once.

So, it likely won’t hurt your dog if you give them too much. However, some dogs become lethargic and tired if given too much CBD. Thankfully, that is not life-threatening or permanently damaging to their health. It can be annoying to the dog, though. Rarely, giving a pet too much CBD can cause them to have diarrhea. It doesn’t often happen, though. The good news is that it is temporary. However, avoiding giving them too much is the best course of action.

Start Low, Go Slow

Firstly, it is essential to start giving your dog small amounts and slowly increase their dosage over the course of a few weeks. This is to see how well they do with what they are being given. After all, pets are just like people, and they all have individual reactions to different things.

So, if you are going to give your dog human CBD oil, it is best to provide them with a dosage that is based on their body weight.

Here is an example of 3 different strengths of dosage to give your dog:
  • LOW TIER = 0.05mg CBD x 0.5kg of body weight
  • MID TIER = 0.125mg CBD x 0.5kg of body weight
  • STRONG TIER = 0.25mg CBD x 0.5kg of body weight

Doses should be given twice a day. However, some dogs may react better to one dose. Keep a close eye on your furry pal when they first begin. The dosing times are usually morning and evening. However, it can be different if you have a unique schedule. People that work night shifts may have to have a different schedule than someone that works during the day. That’s perfectly okay.

A helpful example is a 30 ML bottle of 125 mg CBD oil contains 4.16mg of CBD per ml. So, you will have to do the math on how many drops to give your dog based on their body weight if you are choosing to provide them with human CBD oil. The examples above can help you come to the right calculation.
It is recommended to give them CBD oil under the tongue. However, if you would rather not, you can mix it into their food. They get a faster reaction when they have it administered under the tongue. With food, it takes at least half an hour for them to get the benefits.

As you can see, giving your pet human CBD oil can be done. But, it can be confusing to

CBD Oil for Specific Pets Makes It Much Easier To Correctly Dose

These products have been specially formulated for pets and are much easier to use and dose. Pet parents that want to ensure that their dogs are getting the correct dose should use pet-specific CBD oil. These are products that have been made specifically for pets and are easier to give to pets. There is little to no confusion over dosage amounts with these products. This is why it is recommended to give dogs CBD oil that is made for dogs.

It takes the guesswork out of dosing and gives pet parents the peace of mind that they aren’t offering their pet too much or too little.

Specially formulated pet CBD oils and products are also convenient for other reasons. Many CBD pet companies make treats and other pet-friendly versions of the product that allows a pet owner some choices that work best for their needs.

CBD treats are made organically from hemp extracts. They are often found in flavors that many pets find appealing. This makes it easier to give certain dogs that may be picky eaters or that don’t want to get their dosing under the tongue. It’s true that some pet parents have feisty dogs. Not every dog will be keen to have a dose given

under the tongue. Hence, the option of giving them CBD in treat form is much more appealing to both the dog and the pet owner.

How Do I Know If My Dog Will Benefit From CBD?

CBD has many amazing benefits that have been proven in research, with a couple listed below. It helps dogs and humans in many of the same ways. It allows for inflammation to be lowered, pain to be improved, nausea to be lessened, and anxiety to be decreased. These are all wonderful benefits, and they can really help a dog that is going through some of these health issues.

If your pet has any pain or significant health issues, they will likely benefit from CBD. Because there are almost no side effects, you won’t be putting your dog’s health in jeopardy. NSAIDs and prescription medications can have very harsh side effects for animals. There is usually a list of side effects on these types of drugs that can leave a pet parent stressed and concerned. Worrying about the side effects of medications is stress that pet parents don’t need to add to their growing list of concerns. After all, there is plenty of stress in having a pet that is suffering from health concerns.

CBD is a much safer option to prescriptions and NSAIDs. It contains healing properties and offers nothing but benefits. So, it is very likely that your dog will benefit from CBD. They may benefit from CBD much more than from medications. They certainly won’t have to worry about some of the awful side effects that prescriptions often come with. And that means that pet parents won’t have to worry, either. It is perfectly safe to give your dog CBD, and it is likely going to help them with pain, inflammation, nausea, anxiety, stress, and more. Dogs that have arthritis can benefit greatly, too. Many reports have been made by pet parents that their pets with arthritis are moving much better and don’t seem to be as sore. This can really improve their quality of life and enable them to get up and move around much more.

So, it is recommended that you start out with a small dose. This is to gauge their reaction. Slowly increase their dosage to the recommended amount over time. You will likely be able to see for yourself if the product is helping your dog. Many pet parents

have reported positive health changes in their dogs after only a week or so. That means you will be able to tell if CBD is helping your dog after a few weeks or a month.

How Do I Give CBD Oil For Dogs To My Dog?

The good news is that CBD oil for dogs is made specifically FOR dogs and contains dosing instructions along with it. Pet parents can give CBD oil for dogs to their dogs either under the tongue or mixed in with their dog food.

Reading the instructions that come along with the product is your best bet. Reputable companies will have instructions that you can follow sent along with the product, in an email, or on their website. However, if you have any doubts or concerns, don’t be afraid

to contact the company through their customer support. They should be able to help you right away with any questions or concerns that you have.

Do I Have To Have A Vet’s Approval For CBD?

You do NOT have to have a vet’s approval for CBD. CBD is legal in all fifty states and in many countries. As long as the CBD has less than .3% THC, it is perfectly legal to buy and give to your dog. Veterinarians do not have to give prescriptions for CBD, and so you do not need their approval at all. It is something that pet parents will have to decide for themselves if it will benefit their furry pal.

It is imperative to note that there are some vets that recommend CBD for certain pets. More and more veterinarians are learning about the significant benefits of this product. This is mostly because more research has been released over the last few years that has touted its benefits and its healing properties in animals, just as in humans. Also, because it has become legal and more acceptable, many veterinarians are becoming comfortable in recommending it to pet parents that have a pet that could benefit from CBD products.

Believe it or not, some veterinarians are actually selling CBD products in their office. This means that they have fully embraced the proven research of CBD in pets and are even willing to sell it in their vet office. Holistic veterinarians are exceptionally open-minded about CBD oils, treats, and products that are made for pets.

So, in summation, you do not need your veterinarian’s approval nor recommendation to give your pet CBD. However, it is likely that your vet will recommend it if they have kept up to date with current research and information. Unfortunately, not all veterinarians are keeping current on CBD and have not yet decided to recommend it. But, thankfully, you don’t need their approval to give it to your pet.

Pet parents can choose to give their dogs CBD on their own. Researching the benefits of CBD and which health ailments it can help will be the best way to decide if it is something that you want to give your pet. There are a lot of studies and articles that show the benefits of CBD and that offer pet parents the ability to research it for themselves and decide if it is something worthwhile for their dog or other pet. It is always highly recommended to research anything that you are going to give your pet and have as much knowledge as you can when making decisions. This includes even researching dog foods that you are going to give your pet so that you know what they are

Where Do I Buy CBD Oil For Dogs?

Buying CBD oil for dogs can be done at certain veterinary offices, in some pet stores, and online. The easiest way to buy CBD oil for dogs is online. You can order it from your phone or computer and just wait for it to come in the mail. It is important to look for products that are made specifically for pets. First-time buyers should be especially careful when buying online. There are tons of places that sell CBD for human use. However, only certain retailers have CBD oil for dogs. So, pay careful attention to the type of CBD oil you are buying and ensure that it is made for dogs specifically.

Here at Innovet, we offer safe and natural CBD oil for dogs. It is made from organic hemp extract that is sourced in the United States and has been tested by a third party for safety and efficacy. There is less than .3% THC, and that means that it is totally safe and legal. Naturally organic and safe, your pet can begin taking it right away and enjoying the significant benefits that CBD has been shown to give. Pet parents that are suspicious of prescriptions and chemicals should be pleased to know that this natural alternative is out there and that it can help their dogs with pain, anxiety, inflammation, and much more.

There are also pet treats that you can give your finicky eater. Some dogs do not like to have supplements given under the tongue. CBD treats in different flavors are a great option for pet parents that know their dog will not be happy to take oil under the tongue. Here are some great Innovet’s Hemp Treats For Dogs that can really give your dog a tasty treat that comes with the health benefits of CBD. They are organic and

completely natural, and that means there are no chemicals to worry about. They are made with hemp extract and consist of only organic ingredients.

Final Thoughts on Giving Human CBD Oil To Dogs

Giving human CBD oil to dogs can be done and likely be done safely. After all, their systems are like ours, and they can benefit in the same ways. However, giving them too much accidentally is much more likely when giving them human CBD oil. As discussed earlier in this article, too much CBD is likely to make them lethargic and, although rare, they can have diarrhea. This is why we recommend NOT giving them human CBD oil on a regular basis and why we recommend pet-specific CBD oil and products. It takes the guesswork out of the dosages and makes it much more likely that you won’t give them too much. At Innovet, we want pet parents to be able to give their pets the very best and have the knowledge that they need to make important decisions for their furry friends.

Yes, You Can Give Your Pets ‘Human’ CBD Oil

Can I give my pet human CBD oil? Any CBD oils that contain less than 0.3% THC is safe for your dog or cat. It doesn’t need to be a pet-specific oil to work.

We often get asked, “Is it safe to give ‘human’ CBD to my dog? What’s the difference between human and pet CBD oil?”

You know CBD is a natural option to help with anxiety, pain, and inflammation… for humans. The compound is non-addictive, non-toxic, and all-natural.

So, when your little friend started having health issues, and drugs didn’t help, you started wondering — ‘what if I give my pet some of the CBD oil I’ve been using?’

It sounds like a tough call, but we’ve got the answers. Let’s take a look at the veterinarian research on the safety of using CBD for pets and whether or not you can give your pet “human” CBD oil.

Let’s get started.

Can I Give My Dog or Cat “Human” CBD Oil?

The simple answer is yes — it’s safe to give your pet CBD meant for human consumption — with a few key caveats:

    1. Don’t give your pets any cannabis oil with more than 0.3% THC (0.2% in Europe)
    2. Use smaller doses than what’s recommended on the bottle
    3. Speak with your vet before giving your animal CBD if they have any underlying health concerns

All animals have an endocannabinoid system — including some of the most primitive animals like the sea-squirt. This means that animals also have cannabinoid receptors, a key part of the endocannabinoid system, just like humans do.

Although animals might process CBD in a different way (which is still under research), they have the necessary mechanisms to receive the benefits of CBD. Cannabidiol may be able to relieve pain, inflammation, and anxiety in animals, just like in humans.

But, there are some things you need to know before giving your pet CBD meant for human consumption.

Pet CBD Oil vs. Regular CBD Oil: What’s The Difference?

In essence, CBD is CBD. The extraction process for both animal and human CBD is the same — both types should be derived from clean, organic cannabis, and contain less than 0.3% THC (0.2% in Europe).

So, CBD products meant for humans is essentially the same thing as CBD oil for pets — with few minor differences in potency and flavor options.

What Kind of CBD Oil Can I Give My Pet?

Not all types of CBD oils are created equal. But, as long as you’re using THC-free, hemp-derived CBD isolate you can give your pet the same CBD oil that you’re using.

    1. Always Use THC-Free CBD Products

It’s common for pets to end up at the vet as a result of marijuana toxicosis after consuming the marijuana stash of their owners. On the other hand, pets with health issues such as arthritis, cancer, and other chronic conditions can use a controlled dose of medical cannabis to relieve symptoms.

Some studies show that THC has low toxicity in animals, while others report fatal cases of marijuana use in pets [1,2]. It all comes down to the individual dose.

The case for giving your pet CBD oil that contains THC is under investigation. Although your pet might benefit from some THC, you should avoid giving your pet marijuana oils with high levels of THC. You should stick to pure, THC-free CBD or hemp oil instead just to be safe.

CBD oil with less than 0.3 percent THC is widely considered safe — it won’t harm your pet.

But a high dose could cause side-effects in smaller animals. This could be an issue because of the unregulated CBD oil market — the levels of THC in a full-spectrum CBD oil for human consumption might be higher than officially claimed by the company.

Another issue is the terpenes present in both broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oil for human consumption. Terpenes such as limonene, peppermint, pine, or tea tree, are essential oils found in a variety of plants — including marijuana and hemp — can be harmful to pets, even in small amounts.

Here are the three main types of CBD oil for human consumption you will encounter:

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD or Cannabidiol is one of the naturally-occurring compounds found in the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. There are over 100 compounds, which are referred to as cannabinoids; the two most popular being CBD and THC(delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is the most prevalent compound in the plant and, unlike THC, doesn’t give you the intoxicating or “high” feeling people often refer to. All CBD is derived through an extraction process and should contain less than 0.03 percent THC in order to be consider hemp and legal under the U.S. 2018 Farm Bill.

WHICH “TYPE” OF CBD DO I CHOOSE?

CBD is extracted from the Cannabis Sativa L plant leaving three different “types” for individuals to choose: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate. Which one you choose depends on your goals. In each product description, we’ve identified which “type” of CBD is the basis of the product.

Full Spectrum – is the combination of all present cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This includes the legal limit of 0.03 percent of THC. Research shows the benefit of full spectrum over CBD isolate, the purer form of CBD.

Broad Spectrum – offers the benefit of full spectrum, without the presence of THC or intoxicating effects of it may cause. Broad Spectrum products, specifically oils, contain the all the cannabinoids, excluding the trace amounts of the CBD. Additionally, users will benefit from the presence of terpenes and other natural compounds like flavonoids. If you’re wanting a THC alternative, Broad Spectrum might be a good option for you.

Isolate – is the purest of all the types and by definition contains 99.96% of CBD and is free of any other cannabinoids, terpenes or flavonoids. Moreover, there aren’t any trace amounts of THC in a CBD Isolate.

THE BENEFITS OF TAKING CBD

The U.S. 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp in all 50 states, which opened up the ability for CBD research. While the research has begun and is ongoing regarding the benefits of CBD, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) prohibits claims regarding CBD and its ability to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. We encourage you to perform your own research regarding CBD. What you’ll find is CBD supports our Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This system is responsible for keeping our body in homeostasis and help regulate things temperature; hormones; heart rate; mood; sleep and inflammation – to name a few. Maintaining this “homeostasis” is important for long- term health. Please refer to our CBD 101 page for more details regarding CBD and the Endocannabinoid System.

Pure Kana CBD Pet Tincture – Bacon Flavor – 250mg

Ever tried using CBD oil for dogs and they just don’t want to eat it, no matter what you do? This is NOT something you’ll have to worry about when using PureKana’s Premium Pet CBD Oil. We have formulated these pet-specific tinctures using a robust, authentic bacon flavor, meaning your dog will love it whether you add it to their food or give it to them directly.

We do recommend however that if you do choose to add to your dog’s food, wet food is better. If you add to dry food, the CBD oil will likely absorb into the kernels. This may decrease the bioavailability of the CBD in your dog’s digestive system. To give orally, simply place a full dropper (approximately 24 drops) of oil in a spoon; your dog will love the flavor.

Effectiveness of Cannabidiol Oil for Pediatric Anxiety and Insomnia as Part of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Case Report

Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Fort Collins. E-mail: [email protected]

Naturopathic Physician at the Wholeness Center in Fort Collins, CO. E-mail: [email protected]

Abstract

Introduction

Anxiety and sleep disorders are often the result of posttraumatic stress disorder and can contribute to an impaired ability to focus and to demonstration of oppositional behaviors.

Case Presentation

These symptoms were present in our patient, a ten-year-old girl who was sexually abused and had minimal parental supervision as a young child under the age of five. Pharmaceutical medications provided partial relief, but results were not long-lasting, and there were major side effects. A trial of cannabidiol oil resulted in a maintained decrease in anxiety and a steady improvement in the quality and quantity of the patient’s sleep.

Discussion

Cannabidiol oil, an increasingly popular treatment of anxiety and sleep issues, has been documented as being an effective alternative to pharmaceutical medications. This case study provides clinical data that support the use of cannabidiol oil as a safe treatment for reducing anxiety and improving sleep in a young girl with posttraumatic stress disorder.

INTRODUCTION

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a naturally occurring constituent of industrial hemp and marijuana, which are collectively called cannabis. CBD oil is 1 of at least 85 cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis and is popular for its medicinal benefits. After tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD oil is the second-most-abundant component of cannabis. Other names for CBD oil include CBD-rich hemp oil, hemp-derived CBD oil, or CBD-rich cannabis oil. Considered to be generally safe, CBD has been used medicinally for decades. However, CBD is not medical marijuana and should be distinguished from high-CBD strains of medical marijuana, which do contain THC, such as “Charlotte’s Web.”

The most abundant compound in cannabis, THC is also a cannabinoid. The THC component induces the psychoactive effect, “high.” A cannabis plant has different amounts of CBD and THC depending on the strain and thus provides different recreational or medicinal effects. The cannabinoid profile of industrial hemp or medical marijuana is ideal for people looking for the medical benefits of CBD without the “high” of the THC.

The mechanism of action of CBD is multifold.1–3 Two cannabinoid receptors are known to exist in the human body: CB1 and CB2 receptors. The CB1 receptors are located mainly in the brain and modulate neurotransmitter release in a manner that prevents excessive neuronal activity (thus calming and decreasing anxiety), as well as reduces pain, reduces inflammation, regulates movement and posture control, and regulates sensory perception, memory, and cognitive function. a 2 An endogenous ligand, anandamide, which occurs naturally in our bodies, binds to the CB1 receptors through the G-protein coupling system. CBD has an indirect effect on the CB1 receptors by stopping the enzymatic breakdown of anandamide, allowing it to stay in the system longer and provide medical benefits.4 CBD has a mild effect on the CB2 receptors, which are located in the periphery in lymphoid tissue. CBD helps to mediate the release of cytokines from the immune cells in a manner that helps to reduce inflammation and pain.2

Other mechanisms of action of CBD include stimulation of vanilloid pain receptors (TRPV-1 receptor), which are known to mediate pain perception, inflammation, and body temperature.5 In addition, CBD may exert its anti-anxiety effect by activating adenosine receptors which play a significant role in cardiovascular function and cause a broad anti-inflammatory effect throughout the body.5 At high concentrations, CBD directly activates the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor, thereby conferring an antidepressant effect.6 Cannabidiol has been found to be an antagonist at the potentially new third cannabinoid receptor, GPR55, in the caudate nucleus and putamen, which if stimulated may contribute to osteoporosis.7

Since the 1940s, a considerable number of published articles have dealt with the chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and clinical effects of CBD.8 The last decade has shown a notable increase in the scientific literature on CBD, owing to its identification for reducing nausea and vomiting, combating psychotic disorders, reducing inflammation, decreasing anxiety and depression, improving sleep, and increasing a sense of well-being.9–12 Findings presented at the 2015 International Cannabinoid Research Society at its 25th Annual Symposium reported the use of CBD as beneficial for kidney fibrosis and inflammation, metabolic syndrome, overweight and obesity, anorexia-cachexia syndrome, and modification of osteoarthritic and other musculoskeletal conditions.13–16

Although studies have demonstrated the calming, anti-inflammatory, and relaxing effects of CBD, clinical data from actual cases is minimal. This case study offers evidence that CBD is effective as a safe alternative treatment to traditional psychiatric medications for reducing anxiety and insomnia.17

CASE PRESENTATION

A ten-year-old girl presented in January 2015 for a reevaluation of behaviors related to her diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) secondary to sexual abuse. Her chief issues included anxiety, insomnia, outbursts at school, suicidal ideation, and self-destructive behaviors. Her grandmother, who has permanent custody of the patient and her younger brother, accompanied her.

Our patient had been seen for an initial evaluation in January 2012 and received a diagnosis of PTSD secondary to sexual abuse on the basis of her history, clinical observations, and behaviors ( Table 1 ). Her father had died 6 months earlier in a motor vehicle accident, and our patient’s maternal grandparents became her permanent guardians. Before her father’s death, our patient had no supervision from her father and very little supervision from her mother. An 11-year-old boy had molested her when she was 3 years old. Her medical history included her mother having methadone addiction, alcoholism, bipolar disorder, and depression. Her mother used marijuana her entire pregnancy with the girl. The patient presented in January 2012 as displaying aggressive, disobedient, impulsive, and sexually inappropriate behaviors. She also demonstrated low self-esteem and anxiety and had poor sleep (restless, interrupted, and unable to sleep alone).

CBD = cannabidiol; DHEA = dehydroepiandrosterone; ECG = electrocardiogram; EPA = eicosapentaenoic acid; PTSD = posttraumatic stress disorder; TSH = thyroid stimulating hormone.

Workup during 2012 included laboratory studies, which ruled out a thyroid dysfunction and an iron or vitamin D deficiency. The patient was started on a regimen of 1 mg/night of melatonin, which helped her sleep duration. Three grams of inositol 3 times a day and 500 mg/d of eicosapentaenoic fish oil were also helpful in reducing her anxiety. A trial of clonidine was implemented, which resulted in hallucinations and thus was discontinued. The patient was switched to a regimen of 25 mg of imipramine at bedtime to decrease her anxiety, which appeared to be helpful. Counseling sessions were started. The patient continued psychotherapy for 3 years, but she was not seen again in our clinic until the return visit in January 2015, when she was not receiving any of her medications and supplements.

At the patient’s return in January 2015, she demonstrated the same prominent symptoms as at her initial presentation. At that time, the initial treatment included the following supplements and medications to assist with her sleep and anxiety: melatonin, 5 mg/night; magnesium, 300 mg/d; and diphenhydramine (Benadryl), 25 mg/night. Our patient demonstrated slight gains but was still having outbursts at school and was reportedly difficult to manage at home. In addition, her underlying anxiety continued.

Cannabidiol oil was explored as a potential additional treatment to help her insomnia and anxiety, but we deferred for two months while we waited for a response from other interventions. The grandmother preferred reducing the pharmacologic load given her granddaughter’s failure to respond long term to psychiatric medications.

In March 2015, CBD oil was recommended as a potential additional treatment to help her insomnia and anxiety, and her grandmother provided full informed consent. Our patient was administered the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children18 and the Screen for Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED)19 before taking the CBD oil and each month afterward for the next 5 months. Test scores on the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children and Screen for Anxiety Related Disorders demonstrated an improvement ( Table 2 ).

A trial of CBD supplements (25 mg) was then initiated at bedtime, and 6 mg to 12 mg of CBD sublingual spray was administered during the day as needed for anxiety. A gradual increase in sleep quality and quantity and a decrease in her anxiety were noted. After 5 months, the patient was sleeping in her own room most nights and handling the new school year with no difficulties. No side effects were observed from taking the CBD oil.

DISCUSSION

Studies repeatedly recognize the prevalence of an anxiety-provoked sleep disorder after a traumatic experience.20 Our patient was definitely experiencing this phenomenon, which was aggravated by daily stressful activities.

The main finding from this case study is that CBD oil can be an effective compound to reduce anxiety and insomnia secondary to PTSD. A review of the literature suggests some benefits from the use of CBD because of its anxiolytic and sleep-inducing effects.9 Animal studies support use of this treatment and report that “CBD may block anxiety-induced [rapid eye movement] sleep alteration via its anxiolytic effect on the brain.”21

The strength of this particular case is that our patient was receiving no pharmaceutical medications (other than nonprescription diphenhydramine) but only nutritional supplements and the CBD oil to control her symptoms. Her scores on the sleep scale and the anxiety scale consistently and steadily decreased during a period of 5 months (see Table 2 ). She was ultimately able to sleep through the night most nights in her own room, was less anxious at school and home, and displayed appropriate behaviors. The patient’s grandmother (her caregiver) reported: “My granddaughter’s behaviors are definitely better being on the CBD. Her anxiety is not gone, but it is not as intense and she is much easier to be around. She now sleeps in her own room most of the time, which has never happened before.”

Further study will need to be conducted to determine the permanency of our patient’s positive behaviors and how long she will need to continue taking the CBD oil. We do not have a reasonable foundation to recommend dosing from the scientific literature. However, in our experience, this supplement given 12 mg to 25 mg once daily appears to provide relief of key symptoms with minimal side effects. Our patient did not voice any complaints or discomfort from the use of CBD. We routinely asked about headache, fatigue, and change in appetite or agitation in addition to conducting a routine psychiatric evaluation. Although CBD is considered generally safe,17 the long-term effects are yet to be studied.

The ultimate goal is to gradually taper her off the use of CBD oil and transition our patient into lifelong coping strategies such as yoga, meditation, and various other therapeutic activities.

Marijuana and Medicine

Scientific data indicate the potential therapeutic value of cannabinoid drugs, primarily [tetrahydrocannabinol], for pain relief, control of nausea and vomiting, and appetite stimulation; smoked marijuana, however, is a crude [tetrahydrocannabinol] delivery system that also delivers harmful substances.

4 in 10 teens, young adults have used CBD oil, study finds

(HealthDay)—Many teenagers and young adults may be using so-called CBD products, often in the belief that they will aid health conditions, a preliminary study suggests.

Researchers found that of 200 U.S. teens and young adults who landed in their emergency room, 40% said they had used CBD oil. Some did it “just for fun,” but others thought CBD “can help to treat my medical illness.”

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of hundreds of chemicals found in marijuana. It differs from THC, the source of the famous marijuana “high.” CBD is present in marijuana but is more abundant in hemp—cannabis plants that have little THC.

CBD has exploded in popularity across the United States in recent years, being marketed in everything from lotions and capsules to cookies and coffee. The purported benefits are also wide-ranging and include relief from chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia.

But it’s not clear how often kids use CBD, or whether they believe the hype.

“You can walk into a gas station and buy CBD,” said Nicole Cumbo, a medical student at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., who led the new study. “We wanted to know: Do kids know about it? What do they believe? Is CBD use associated with risk-taking behaviors?”

To get an idea, the researchers questioned 200 patients, aged 12 to 23, who were treated at a Penn State ER. Overall, 40% had ever used CBD, and 48% believed the chemical could treat “medical illnesses.”

For the most part, there was no sign CBD users had suffered unusual symptoms in the past six months, compared with non-users. But they were more likely to report anxiety: 66% did, versus 47% of non-users.

“It’s difficult to pinpoint why,” Cumbo said. “Did the CBD cause anxiety? Or were kids using CBD to treat anxiety, since that’s one of the things it’s marketed for.”

Since all of those in the study were seen in an emergency department, their CBD experiences might not be reflective of young people in general, Cumbo said.

But the findings do suggest that CBD use is common among teens and young adults, she noted, and doctors and parents should be aware of that. Among the findings, young people who used CBD were also more likely than non-users to smoke, use chewing tobacco or abuse prescription pain medication.

Cumbo presented the findings at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics, held online Friday. Studies presented at meetings are generally considered preliminary.

It’s not clear why so many young people believed in CBD’s curative powers—whether it’s the marketing, word of mouth, or ubiquity of the product, Cumbo added.

But the CBD widely available in capsules, food and cosmetics has not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. And the many health claims these products tout have not been scientifically proven, said Richard Miller, a professor of pharmacology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in Chicago. He was not involved in the study.

Cannabis has been used medicinally for thousands of years, Miller said, but much more is known about its main component, THC, than about CBD.

“Until about 20 years ago, CBD was thought to be completely inactive,” Miller said.

Now, with the explosion in CBD products, scientists are rushing to study the cannabis chemical. But at this point, CBD is approved in the United States for only one indication: certain rare forms of epilepsy. That product—called Epidiolex—is a purified, pharmaceutical-grade CBD, and not the oil people can get at a corner market.

The other health claims attributed to CBD are “up in the air,” Miller said. It’s unlikely that a single compound is the panacea that marketing suggests, he added.

“I’m not saying there’s no benefit,” he stressed. There is, however, no consensus yet on what the benefits might be, Miller said.

As for safety, Miller said the CBD doses in consumer products may be unlikely to cause harm. He also doubted the CBD infusion in someone’s ice cream would be enough to bring health benefits.

Cumbo recommended some caution before using CBD to treat a medical condition: People should first talk to their doctor or pharmacist—including about whether CBD could interact with any medications they are taking.

Topical cbd or oil best for arthritis

Does CBD help with arthritis pain?

If you have chronic arthritis pain, you may be wondering about cannabidiol (CBD) as a treatment. CBD, along with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other chemicals, is found in marijuana. But unlike THC, CBD is not “psychoactive” — that is, it does not cause the intoxication or high associated with marijuana use.

There’s a good chance you’ve tried it already: according to a Gallup poll in August of 2019, about 14% of Americans report using CBD products, and the number one reason is pain. The Arthritis Foundation conducted its own poll and found that 29% reported current use of CBD (mostly in liquid or topical form), and nearly 80% of respondents were either using it, had used it in the past, or were considering it. Of those using it, most reported improvement in physical function, sleep, and well-being; of note, a minority reported improvement in pain or stiffness.

Perhaps you’ve been tempted to try it. After all, most types of arthritis are not cured by other treatments, and CBD is considered a less addictive option than opiates. Or maybe it’s the marketing that recommends CBD products for everything from arthritis to anxiety to seizures. The ads are pretty hard to miss. (Now here’s a coincidence: as I was writing this, my email preview pane displayed a message that seemed to jump off the screen: CBD Has Helped Millions!! Try It Free Today!)

What’s the evidence it works? And what do experts recommend? Until recently, there’s been little research and even less guidance for people (or their doctors) interested in CBD products that are now increasingly legal and widely promoted.

But now, there is.

A word about arthritis pain

It’s worth emphasizing that there are more than 100 types of arthritis, and while pain is a cardinal feature of all of them, these conditions do not all act alike. And what works for one may not work for another. Treatment is aimed at reducing pain and stiffness and maintaining function for all types of arthritis. But for certain conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, conventional prescription medications are highly recommended, because these drugs help prevent permanent joint damage and worsening disability.

In addition, individuals experience pain and respond to treatment in different ways. As a result, it’s highly unlikely that there is a single CBD-containing product that works for all people with all types of arthritis.

What’s the evidence that CBD is effective for chronic arthritis pain?

While there are laboratory studies suggesting CBD might be a promising approach, and animal studies showing anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects, well-designed studies demonstrating compelling evidence that CBD is safe and effective for chronic arthritis pain in humans do not exist. A randomized trial of topical CBD for osteoarthritis of the knee has been published, but in abstract form only (meaning it’s a preliminary report that summarizes the trial and has not been thoroughly vetted yet); the trial lasted only 12 weeks, and results were mixed at best. One of the largest reviews examined the health effects of cannabis and CBD, and concluded that there is “substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults.” But there was no specific conclusion regarding CBD, presumably because definitive studies were not available.

Of course, there is anecdotal evidence and testimonials galore, including reports of dramatic improvement by people who tried CBD in its various forms (including capsule, liquid, topical, and spray) for their pain. But we are still waiting for well-designed, scientifically valid, and rigorous clinical trials (such as this one in progress) that are so badly needed to answer the question of just how helpful CBD may be to people with chronic arthritis pain.

Are there downsides to CBD treatment?

As with any treatment, there can be downsides. CBD is generally considered safe; however, it can still cause lightheadedness, sleepiness, dry mouth, and rarely, liver problems. There may be uncertainty about the potency or purity of CBD products (since they are not regulated as prescription medications are), and CBD can interact with other medications. For pregnant women, concern has been raised about a possible link between inhaled cannabis and lower-birthweight babies; it’s not clear if this applies to CBD. Some pain specialists have concerns that CBD may upset the body’s natural system of pain regulation, leading to tolerance (so that higher doses are needed for the same effect), though the potential for addiction is generally considered to be low.

There is one definite downside: cost. Prices range widely but CBD products aren’t inexpensive, and depending on dose, frequency, and formulation, the cost can be considerable — I found one brand that was $120/month, and health insurance does not usually cover it.

Are there guidelines about the use of CBD for chronic arthritis pain?

Until recently, little guidance has been available for people with arthritis pain who were interested in CBD treatment. Depending on availability and interest, patients and their doctors had to decide on their own whether CBD was a reasonable option in each specific case. To a large degree that’s still true, but some guidelines have been published. Here’s one set of guidelines for people pursuing treatment with CBD that I find quite reasonable (based on recommendations from the Arthritis Foundation and a recent commentary published in the medical journal Arthritis Care & Research):

Dos:

  • If considering a CBD product, choose one that has been independently tested for purity, potency, and safety — for example, look for one that has received a “Good Manufacturing Practices” (GMP) certification.
  • CBD should be one part of an overall pain management plan that includes nonmedication options (such as exercise) and psychological support.
  • Choose an oral treatment (rather than inhaled products) and start with a low dose taken in the evening.
  • Establish initial goals of treatment within a realistic period of time — for example, a reduction in knee pain that allows you to walk around the block within two weeks of starting treatment; later, if improved, the goals can be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor(s) about your planned and current CBD treatment; monitor your pain and adjust medications with your medical providers, rather than with nonmedical practitioners (such as those selling CBD products).

Don’ts:

  • Don’t make CBD your first choice for pain relief; it is more appropriate to consider it if other treatments have not been effective enough.
  • Don’t have nonmedical practitioners (such as those selling CBD products) managing your chronic pain; pain management should be between you and your healthcare team, even if it includes CBD.
  • For people with rheumatoid arthritis or related conditions, do not stop prescribed medications that may be protecting your joints from future damage; discuss any changes to your medication regimen with your doctor.

The bottom line

If you’re interested in CBD treatment for chronic arthritis pain or if you’re already taking it, review the pros, cons, and latest news with your healthcare providers, and together you can decide on a reasonable treatment plan. Depending on the type of arthritis you have, it may be quite important to continue your conventional, prescribed medications even if you pursue additional relief with CBD products.

We may not have all the evidence we’d like, but if CBD can safely improve your symptoms, it may be worth considering.

Top 10 CBD Creams for Arthritis & Joint Pain

More and more arthritis sufferers are turning to cannabidiol (CBD) as a natural way to support pain relief. CBD arthritis creams and lotions can be applied topically to specific areas to help reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain. What are the best CBD arthritis creams? In this article, we explain the science behind CBD and arthritis and recommend the top CBD creams to try.

CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant. Like THC, it is a cannabinoid that interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). Unlike THC, however, it does not contain psychoactive or intoxicating properties. Instead, CBD is used primarily for its health and wellness benefits, including its apparent ability to promote a sense of calm, regulate mood, improve sleep, and reduce inflammation and pain.

Early research makes CBD cream for arthritis a promising option to help those suffering from arthritis and joint pain. Since CBD and industrial hemp were only made available for study after the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, long term and large group studies are still in the works. While more definitive research is needed before it can be prescribed as a treatment, CBD for joint pain may certainly play a role in supplementing current treatment options with a low risk of side effects. As with any CBD product, be sure to consult with your doctor before taking CBD to make sure that it won’t interact with any of your existing medications or treatments.

Why Would You Try CBD Cream?

CBD is a compound found in cannabis plants that has gained much attention for its apparent ability to aid in inflammation, stress, and many other issues. This compound can be infused into creams, lotions, and salves as a way to apply CBD topically for a variety of benefits, including skin nourishment and pain alleviation.

CBD creams differ from other products, like oil tinctures or CBD capsules, in that they allow you to apply CBD directly to painful areas on the body, like knees, shoulders, hands, or wrists. The CBD is then absorbed through the skin to help treat the affected area more quickly than CBD that is taken orally and must be absorbed into the bloodstream. CBD lotions for arthritis also provide an alternative to ingesting or inhaling CBD, which can benefit those with sensitive digestive systems or pallets.

With a CBD cream, you can typically find much higher concentrations of CBD in each product, allowing you the potential to enjoy stronger relief. The best CBD arthritis creams also contain natural ingredients like menthol, eucalyptus, peppermint, California poppy, shea butter, and beeswax to help sooth aching joints and nourish skin.

Does CBD Help with Arthritis?

While research into the effectiveness of CBD to treat arthritis is still in its early stages, there are a number of promising studies. Take this study that concluded that topical CBD has potential as an effective treatment of arthritic pain. Researchers believe the administration of CBD could also have long-lasting therapeutic effects.

Animal studies have shown that transdermal, or topical, application of CBD does have therapeutic potential for relieving arthritis pain and inflammation. Another study using rats found that atypical receptors beyond just CB2 might be beneficial in treating inflammatory pain with cannabinoids. Recent research published in the Journal of Opioid Management concluded that CBD transdermal cream provided “significant symptom and pain relief” for patients suffering from severe back pain.

CBD is an immunosuppressive, and most often binds with the body’s CB2 receptor, which directly influences our immune system. This allows it to help inhibit the production of certain inflammatory processes in the body, which could help to reduce arthritis and joint pain.

As a reminder, CBD is one of more than 100 cannabinoids that occur naturally in the cannabis plant. These plant compounds, along with terpenes and flavonoids, work through a process known as the entourage effect to promote homeostasis within the body.

CBD Oil for Colds: Does It Help With Flu Symptoms?

Following the famous quote from Game of Thrones, it’s time to prepare for the colds and flu season.

Very few people make it through the winter without an annoying sore throat or colds.

Sure, you can go down the conventional route, get some anti-cold medications or even a flu shot that is laden with unknown chemicals, but you may just as well turn to natural remedies for help.

What many doctors won’t tell you is that it’s best to support your natural immunity while letting colds and cases of flu run their course. Natural solutions include herbs, teas, vitamins, minerals, and plant-based extracts — such as CBD oil.

In this article, we shed some light on how to use CBD to boost your immune system, preventing your body from catching infections.

CBD for Colds: Does It Help?

The common cold is triggered by inflammation that occurs in a person’s nasal and upper respiratory tract. Although many viruses can cause a cold or flu, rhinoviruses are to blame most of the time.

Experiencing a sore throat, congestion, runny nose, cough, sneezing, mild fever, headaches, and body aches, are some of the most common symptoms of colds.

There is no known cure for colds, but most cases go away within two weeks when a person uses natural remedies to control symptoms.

CBD (cannabidiol) has demonstrated antibacterial and antiviral properties in many studies — showing itself as a potential therapeutic agent for colds.

Scientists found that CBD has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Together with another major compound, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), it can be found in Sativex, a mouth spray used to relieve pain and spasticity.

One study concluded that CBD was able to improve the quality of sleep in patients with anxiety disorders.

Poor sleep is often associated with susceptibility to the common cold. According to one study, people with low-quality sleep are more prone to getting sick upon exposure to rhinoviruses.

Despite positive initial findings, there’s no direct scientific evidence to prove that CBD can cure colds.

How CBD Oil Works to Help with Colds

Researchers have found that CBD interacts with receptors of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a major regulatory network that modulates several vital functions throughout the body.

CBD’s relationship with the ECS is believed to be the reason for its immunosuppressant effects. Using this mechanism, CBD can improve the communication between the immune cells and selectively shut down overactive parts of the immune system — reducing inflammation.

In a 2008 study, CBD was found to modulate sleep-wake cycles through its interaction with the ECS.

The sleep-wake cycle can be modulated through the activation of the CB1 receptor. While CBD doesn’t directly bind to CB1, it signals the ECS to produce more endocannabinoids that activate it; it also slows down their breakdown, so in the end, more endocannabinoids can bind to CB1 receptors and contribute to a more restful sleep.

CBD activates the CB2 receptor, which, according to a study on respiratory viral infection, is responsible for anti-inflammatory effects in the body.

Why Is It Worth to Use CBD Oil for Colds?

  • According to the aforementioned studies, CBD might benefit people with colds and flu due to its ability to reduce symptoms of the illness, such as inflammation and pain. in anxiety patients. Poor quality sleep is linked to a weakened immune system and a higher susceptibility to infections.
  • Unlike THC, the intoxicating ingredient in medical cannabis, CBD doesn’t have mind-altering effects, so it won’t affect your daily performance.
  • CBD is legal in the USA. You can purchase it without prescription in CBD stores near you or online.
  • The FDA supports research on the potential therapeutic properties of cannabis plants and their derivatives.

What Are the Limitations of Using CBD Oil for Colds?

  • No study has yet examined a direct link between CBD use and the symptoms of colds and flu.
  • Despite its excellent safety profile, CBD can have some mild side effects in high doses. In humans, the observed adverse effects include diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, and changes in appetite.
  • The CBD market isn’t regulated, so CBD products lack standardization and come with a high risk of mislabeling.
  • Currently, the only FDA-approved medication from CBD is Epidiolex — an antiepileptic drug based on a synthetic version of CBD isolate. There are no other official marketing applications for CBD.

CBD vs Other Natural Treatments for Colds

Vitamin C, probiotics, and zinc are often mentioned as potential preventive and interventional methods for the common cold.

Data on Vitamin C shows that the compound can cause a decrease in the duration of colds in subjects.

Zinc intake within 24 hours of symptom onset was found to mitigate the severity of flu symptoms and colds in participants.

Probiotics are beneficial in protecting your system against upper respiratory tract infections due to their antiviral properties.

Taken together with these aforementioned compounds, CBD can work with them in a synergy, enhancing the efficacy of your cold treatment.

You can also find many CBD products today that are infused with vitamin C, probiotics, and zinc.

How to Choose CBD for Colds

There are three main types of CBD when it comes to common colds: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate.

The most desired type is the full-spectrum option. Such products contain all of the naturally occurring compounds found in hemp — including CBD, adjunctive cannabinoids, terpenes, and trace amounts of THC.

Full-spectrum CBD creates the entourage effect, which refers to the synergistic effects achieved by the aforementioned compounds. The entourage effect makes whole-plant extracts more effective and predictable when it comes to dosing.

Broad-spectrum CBD is much like its full-spectrum counterpart, except for the lack of THC. The intoxicating cannabinoid is removed after initial extraction to create a zero-THC product that still benefits from some parts of the entourage effect.

Finally, CBD isolate refers to pure CBD, which has been isolated from other hemp compounds and turned into whitish crystals. These crystals are then powdered and infused into a range of CBD products, such as oils, edibles, capsules, vapes, and topicals. Although isolates carry the highest dose of CBD per serving, they don’t evoke the entourage effect — making them the least desired option.

Tips for Finding the Right CBD Oil:

  • Look for a certificate of analysis of the desired CBD product. This is a form of a lab report that shows the results for the product’s potency and purity.
  • Choose high potency CBD oils derived from organic hemp. Such plants are grown in natural conditions, without pesticides and artificial boosters, so they’re cleaner and contain higher concentrations of CBD than mass-produced hemp.
  • Opt for CO2-extracted products. CO2 extraction is the industry’s golden standard; it doesn’t require adding extra heat or toxic solvents and ensures the highest purity and consistency in potency in all product batches.
  • Purchase products with targeted formulas. As mentioned, CBD oil can be infused with other complementary compounds, such as vitamin C, vitamin D, probiotics, and zinc.
  • Consult a doctor experienced in cannabis use before purchasing CBD. Doing so will help you determine the right dosage and avoid potential interactions with other medications.

CBD Dosage for Colds

Since CBD products aren’t regulated in the USA, there are no official guides or charts for CBD dosage.

However, taking a look at human clinical trials using CBD may provide insight for a safe and relatively accurate CBD dosage range.

For example, using CBD for anxiety may require doses between 25–175 mg per day of CBD. These amounts are enough to produce a significant clinical response. However, the study’s authors used pure CBD, not a whole-plant extract, so the dosage may change depending on what kind of product you’re using.

CBD is also safe and well-tolerated in humans. Studies have shown that doses of CBD can reach as high as 1,500 mg per day without any dangerous side effects.

How to Take CBD Oil for Colds

The best way to take CBD for cold and sore throat is through oil or tincture. CBD oils are usually administered sublingually (under the tongue) and held there for up to 60 seconds.

You can also take CBD directly — as gummies or capsules — which is a great way to use CBD for beginners. That’s because they’re straightforward and contain a premeasured amount of CBD.

Vaping is another way to get CBD into your system. It offers the highest bioavailability and the fastest onset of effects. However, this form of consumption may not be recommended if you cough because it can irritate your airways, causing more cough, sore throat, and sneezing.

Why Do We Get Colds and Flus?

This is actually a quite difficult question to answer, but most of the time, it boils down to the following triggers:

  • Being constantly in confined areas with other infected people who have influenza. Viruses become airborne when someone coughs, so it can only take a few breaths to catch the illness.
  • Constant mutations of rhinoviruses. Unfortunately, our immune systems need some time to adjust to these ever-changing germs, and catching a cold or flu is actually a sign of a “system upgrade.”
  • Touching items that have been touched by an infected person. Viruses can survive on non-porous surfaces for hours, so it’s possible to get sick by getting a second-hand infection.

How do Viruses Affect Our Body?

Colds and cases of flu are simply the outcomes of viruses attacking our bodies. Viruses are microscopic molecules of genetic material, covered by a thin layer of protein. Unlike the normal cells in our body, these viruses aren’t able to reproduce on their own, instead, they use the metabolism of your cells to produce many clones of themselves.

When a virus enters a cell, it will either use its constituents to copy itself, eventually breaking the cell seeking a new one, or, injecting itself into the DNA of your cell. By doing so, the virus can pass down through natural cell division (cytokinesis) and genetic duplication (mitosis).

Key Takeaways on Using CBD Oil for Colds

CBD has remarkable anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties that may prove beneficial for individuals with a common cold or flu.

The cannabinoid interacts with various receptors of the ECS, which improve its ability to regulate immune response — enhancing your immunity as a result.

Not only that, but CBD can also curb inflammation and pain, which are the two common symptoms of a cold. On top of that, it can also help improve sleep in people with anxiety. Poor sleep is one of the major reasons why people have compromised immune systems.

You can add some zinc, probiotics, and vitamin C to your daily routine as preventive measures against colds. Holistic supplementation will help enhance your immune system and keep you resistant to illnesses.

Can CBD Help with Arm Pump?

We can’t say for sure if CBD does infact help with arm pump, however, what we can say is that we have received positive feedback from both MX and Short Circuit Racers who by using CBD have significantly reduced the severity of their arm pump to a tolerable level that allows them to continue their efforts on track.

We put this down to the anti inflammatory properties of CBD and also the combined properties of CBD and Terpenes within our Full Spectrum CBD Muscle Rub, assisting with blood flow and muscle recovery.

You can mitigate arm pump by keeping your blood flowing regularly. Be forewarned that riding your motorcycle once every two weeks and being sedentary between rides invites arm pump. Motorbike racing is a physically demanding sport that uses many muscles and revs your heart rate. Inactivity for weeks and then jumping on your bike is a shock to the body. The solution is to stay active; ride your mountain bike, go swimming or workout in the gym when you’re not riding.

Equally, As bad as the sedentary lifestyle is, an overactive one can be just as detrimental. Riding and training every day doesn’t always allow enough time for the body to recover. Arm pump can be a byproduct of over-training. When you exercise, your body produces toxins that can get trapped in the arms. The best known of these toxins is lactic acid. It builds up in the muscles to create a burning sensation. If you fail to take the necessary time off to let your body flush itself, you could suffer the effects of arm pump. Listen to your body – We recommend using our Full Spectrum CBD Muscle Rub pre and post workout. This also applies to pre and post race, gently massage the rub into your forearms to activate and encourage blood flow.

7 Things You Need to Know About CBD

This plant compound found in marijuana may be able to help drive gains by wiping out pain and boosting recovery.

While everyone knows that a few tokes of weed will get you high, revival of research from the ’70s has found that some compounds in the plant can help with a wide range of ailments, like chronic pain, depression, symptoms from chemotherapy, and multiple sclerosis. That’s one reason that the plant is now legal in 10 states (as of press time) and allowed to be consumed for medical purposes in another 22. The other: Huge amounts of tax money from marijuana sales are filling up state coffers—Colorado alone took in more than $247 million last year. Put simply: The marijuana market is blowing up.

But it’s cannabidiol (CBD)—the straitlaced brother to the chemical in marijuana (THC) that gets you stoned—that’s been taking the nation by storm. This seemingly miraculous compound has been found to jump-start healing in your body by regulating the immune system and reducing inflammation, all without any harmful side effects. Below, we go over what you need to know about CBD oil.

What Every Guy Should Know About THC and CBD in We.

Get familiar with the compounds in marijuana with this explainer.

How CBD Helped Me

Last summer, I hurt my hand trying to yank up some stuck luggage. The excruciating pain, and the advice from an orthopedist, meant that I had to stop lifting anything heavy, pretty much avoiding any exercise that required my hands.

After six weeks, my hand was feeling fine, so I started deadlifting again. Two weeks later, I tried to hoist my old working weight, but on my fourth set, a burst of pain radiated through my lower back. The next morning, I could barely roll out of bed without experiencing a wave of throbbing pain—I’d hurt my back before, but this was next-level. Struggling to even put socks on, I hobbled into the bathroom, pulled open a drawer, and grabbed some CBD cream that was sent to me for review months ago. I squirted two pumps in my palm and slathered it on my back and forgot about it. I did that twice a day for the next two days.

On the third day, I woke up feeling great, rolled out of bed with little to no pain, and was able to function normally. I was shocked. I expected a long recovery full of frustration, but I was pretty much healed after only three days. I waited one more week before going back into the gym and then did some light squats and deadlifts with hardly a twinge or notion of pain. Anecdotal evidence or not, a bottle of CBD cream or oil will now always be a part of my training regimen.

Does CBD Oil Actually Work?

Or is the recent buzz much ado about nothing?

What is CBD?

The human body has a specific biological network called the endocannabinoid system, which is made up of neurotransmitters and receptors specifically attuned to cannabinoids. These compounds can produce healing effects on our cognitive and physical processes when they bind to specific receptors.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is probably the most well-known cannabinoid—and most prevalent in recreational weed—as it’s what gives you that stereotypical, euphoric high when smoked or ingested.

Cannabidiol (CBD), which is found in high concentrations in hemp or industrial marijuana, is the next most common cannabinoid. It doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects, so, up until recently, it was thought to not act on the human body at all. Well, we were wrong.

What Does CBD Do?

CBD binds to receptors, called CB1 and CB2—which are found in your brain, nervous system, muscle tissue, and even some organs—and has been shown to boost functioning of the immune and nervous system as well as better manage pain.

“CBD tends to regulate and normalize these receptors in your muscles, in your immune system, in your spleen, in your kidney, your liver,” says Bomi Joseph, Ph.D., director of the Peak Health Foundation and a noted plant compound researcher.

How is it Used?

A 2018 meta-analysis of multiple studies on the compound published in the journal Frontiers in Immunology concluded that CBD “has clearly shown” effects for reducing and treating anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and psychosis. There are also CBD-THC hybrids, which have been used to treat multiple sclerosis, a disorder that turns the immune system against the nervous system, damaging nerves and affecting balance and muscle control. Some medications using CBD have helped to treat epilepsy in children and teens, with studies showing the compound can reduce and even eliminate seizures altogether.

Other studies show that CBD can boost and support brain health. Additional research published in the journal Cell Communication and Signaling found that CBD could spur the growth of new neurons in the brain and protect brain cells. And another review from 2017 found that CBD has antioxidant effects that also help keep the brain from degenerating from the effects of old age or mental disorders like schizophrenia.

What is the Correct Dosing?

The short answer is, we don’t know. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate the compound, so formulations, dosages, and quality control are all over the place. And since the consumer market is exploding and regulations are almost nonexistent, there is a glut of CBD products coming from overseas that aren’t quite kosher.

“Most of the CBD products that are flooding the market now are synthetic,” Joseph says. “Though we can come close, we can’t completely mimic nature.” Joseph compares synthetic CBD to the margarine form of vegetable oil—you can hydrogenate it so it is similar to butter, but at its core it’s not the same thing. Synthetic CBD won’t work as well as the natural stuff.

General Dosing Guidelines

It’s hard to give the optimum dose, as it depends on the concentration and other environmental factors. It’s best to start out with a low dose and see how you feel, but here are a couple of guidelines.

  • 10 milligrams a day for a 5’9″ male
  • 15 milligrams for someone 6’2″ and athletic

What Should You Look For in CBD Products

When buying a CBD product, make sure that it’s plant-derived, whether it’s from hops or hemp or feverfew. Some of the better brands out there, like Extract Labs, Medical Marijuana, Nanocraft, Real Scientific, and Green Helix, produce products that have clear, third-party lab-tested results available and are some of the highest-quality plant-derived CBD products around. And currently—the laws are still a bit murky and evolving—you can legally get CBD products in all 50 states, though there are some minor restrictions depending on where you live.

Congress is working on legislation right now that would make industrial hemp legal in the U.S., which would mean any CBD derived from hemp would also be legal nationwide. Right now there are numerous shops online that can legally sell you CBD products, and brick-and-mortar stores are popping up all over the place, so check your local listings.

Since CBD products aren’t regulated by the FDA, there are no clear instructions on what kind of product to use and how to properly dose yourself. But taking CBD isn’t the same as taking a drug, so you don’t need to worry about overdosing or getting sick, says Prudence Hall, M.D., medical director of the Hall Center in Santa Monica, CA. “I’ve talked to almost 400 patients in the last year who’ve been using CBD, [and] I haven’t heard anyone say anything negative—sometimes a few people will mention that they feel a little more fatigued.” A 2018 study from the University of Wisconsin stated that twice-daily use of CBD was “generally well-tolerated” and any adverse effects were “mild in severity.”

Can CBD Help My Gains?

Though taking CBD to enhance performance is not well-studied, there are some athletes out there who use CBD and THC extracts to help with recovery and pain management. A few well-known athletes, including UFC fighters Yair Rodriquez and Nate Diaz, ultramarathon runner Avery Collins, and Tennessee Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan, have come out and said that they use CBD to help with recovery, heal sore muscles and achy joints, and tamp down general inflammation. Using CBD in your own athletic endeavors can help you with your gains, but not by making you directly stronger or giving you more energy, like steroids or stimulants.

Where CBD will benefit the weekend warrior is by making recovery from intense exercise and minor injuries faster. “What happens when you pull a muscle or get injured is that there’s an immediate inflammation of that area because your body is trying to confine it,” Joseph says. “CBD tells that inflammation signal to go down. That’s what everybody feels initially, but CBD actually speeds up the recovery.”

Liquid gold cbd oil for sale

Liquid Gold CBD Oil with Turmeric and Black Pepper – 2% Strength (30ml)

Developed alongside US experts, our signature Liquid Gold CBD Oil (also known as CBD Gold) with Turmeric and Black Pepper combines all the benefits of Full Spectrum CBD with the addition of double-strength curcumin turmeric and black pepper.

This unflavoured oil has a pleasantly earthy, spicy and nutty flavour, and is designed to be taken under the tongue.

Liquid Gold CBD Oil is a low strength product, delivering 1.0mg of CBD per drop. It’s perfect for those just starting out on their CBD journey, as well as those looking to combine CBD with the additional health benefits of curcumin turmeric.

What are the benefits of turmeric and curcumin?

Turmeric has long been valued in Ayurvedic medicine and is widely used in India to treat skin conditions, digestive issues and general aches and pains. Curcumin is what gives turmeric its distinctive taste and colour and has the greatest health-promoting effects; being widely known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Based on the proportions of Golden Paste, each drop of Liquid Gold CBD Oil contains 24mg of turmeric. The addition of Rice Bran Oil and black pepper will optimise the absorption and bioavailability of curcumin, ensuring maximum benefits are felt.

Studies have shown impressive results with consistent use of curcumin.

As well as being an antioxidant powerhouse, reducing inflammation and helping to prevent future flareups, it’s also known to reduce pain responses and to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis and ‘leaky gut’ syndrome.

What does Full Spectrum CBD mean?

Because Liquid Gold CBD Oil is made with Full Spectrum CBD, it contains a range of naturally occurring compounds from the plants. These include both CBD and CBDa.

Combined together, these different cannabinoids can work in synergy to create what has been called an ‘entourage effect’. This means that different cannabinoids in CBD work together to create an effect that can be more significant than any of the active ingredients can create on their own.

What are the benefits of Rice Bran Oil?

Liquid Gold CBD Oil is made with a base of Rice Bran Oil. This can be a great option for those just starting out with CBD as it’s very light and mild-tasting oil. It’s easy to take by mouth, is readily absorbed into the bloodstream, and leaves less residue on the tongue than other oils too.

Rice Bran Oil is well known for its own health benefits.

It’s rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and free of trans-fats which makes it great for heart health. It contains good amounts of the antioxidant oryzanol too, and early studies have shown that it can help significantly lower LDL cholesterol and boost HDL cholesterol. In fact, both the American Heart Association and The World Health Organisation suggest that Rice Bran Oil might be the best choice of oil when it comes to improving serum cholesterol levels, and say it may also help with weight loss.

Rice Bran Oil is high in vitamin E which can help protect against diseases and boost the immune system. This fat-soluble vitamin is also a powerful antioxidant, helping to prevent damage by free radicals.

Thanks to its fatty acids Rice Bran Oil can help keep the skin soft, supple and smooth, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and keeping the skin hydrated. It’s also great for nails, softening cuticles and helping them grow longer.

“Start low and slowly grow” is the key to starting your CBD journey. This will allow you to slowly build up your endocannabinoid system and fully realise your sweet spot. Your endocannabinoid system works on a bell curve and if you take too much at once then you can go over the curve and overload which could result in having the opposite effect of what you’re hoping to achieve.

This is a rough guide only as each of us is different and unique. A slow approach may be more beneficial to you and increase fortnightly instead. The time frames below are examples, but a good guide to how dosing is recommended.

Cbd oil uses for cats

Cbd oil uses for cats

Although talk of CBD has been around the use for humans and dogs, cats are just as much a part of our family – so that brings up a big question: Can CBD help them live their best lives, too? There are a lot of reasons to think the answer may be yes.

HOW DOES CBD WORK?

All animals have an endocannabinoid system, and it plays a big role in keeping them healthy. The body produces endocannabinoids, substances much like the cannabinoids found in cannabis. These travel the bloodstream and attach to cells throughout the body to deliver messages and instructions that tell it what’s going on and how to react. Almost every bodily process is affected by these endocannabinoids.

That’s how CBD works. It takes the place of these endocannabinoids. When they aren’t delivering the instructions we need them to, or when the system is under more stress than normal, then CBD can help bring everything back to a state of homeostasis.

HOW DOES CBD OIL FOR CATS WORK?

Cats have an endocannabinoid system, too. So it’s hardly a stretch to think that CBD can help them with things like anxiety, stress, inflammation, and pain in the same way we’re finding out it helps the rest of us . And we do see and hear lots of anecdotal evidence to back up the idea—from stories about unpettable cats turning in snugglebugs to reports of arthritic felines getting their mojo back.

Still, we can’t say for 100% sure because there just isn’t any long-term studies (yet!) to confirm our suspicions. We do know that CBD appears to be as safe for cats as it is for dogs . One project found large doses could cause side effects but said THC contamination was probably to blame. That same study also found that CBD was absorbed and eliminated differently in cats than it was in pups, which may mean modifying our doses for cats.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CBD OIL FOR CATS?

CBD’s main claim to fame is it’s ability to decrease inflammation and thus decrease chronic pain in mammals. Researchers at Cornell University fount that CBD oil is great at treating pain because they taret a receptor called the ‘villanoid receptor’ and prevent it from turing on.

CBD is also an excellent neuroprotector which makes it great at treating neurological disorders like seizures and epilepsy.

Other ways in which CBD can benefit cats is by helping with their:

  1. Anxiety
  2. Pain
  3. Inflammation
  4. Seizures/ Epilepsy
  5. Arthritis
  6. Inflammatory bowel disease
  7. Urinary Tract
  8. Overall Wellness

WHICH CBD OIL?

CBD oil for cats usually comes mixed with a few other ingredients to help make it more palatable and nutritious. Often times human or dog CBD is mixed with coconut oil. Unfortunately, cats can’t process the healthy fatty acids found in plants like coconuts (that’s because they’re carnivores.

So look for CBD oils containing sardine oil instead, like Austin and Kat’s Purrfect Feline Formula. And if you must use a coconut oil-based CBD, make sure you get a concentrated one so your furry friend isn’t ingesting too much.

HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I GIVE?

We recommend giving a dose of 2-4 mg of CBD per 10 pounds for cats to start. This is twice the amount we recommend for dogs, but don’t fret. Cat’s don’t have as many cannabinoid receptors as dogs so they need twice the amount to see the same effects. For cats with cancer or seizures, start with 4-6mg of CBD per 10 pounds.

The more difficult the condition, the more CBD you’ll need. But start small and go up until your furry feline is feeling happier and calmer. A little less, or even a little more oil won’t do any harm. Dosing can easily remain approximate until you’re able to find what works best for your cat.

Charlie, or Char-Char, for example, is a lazy 25-pound orange tabby cat. He would have a starting serving of 5mg of CBD and can increase to 10mg if 4mg is not enough for him.

Just remember – It takes about 15-45 minutes to reach full-effect in your pet’s system and lasts for about 4 – 6 hours, depending on breed, ailments, activity level, and their own personal chemistry.

CBD Oil for Cats: Benefits, Dosages & What to Know!

CBD oil is one of the hottest products in the world right now, as people are using it for all sorts of things, including calming anxiety, treating aches and pains, and even fighting acne. But did you know that you can also give CBD oil to your cat?

It’s true — CBD oil for pets is quickly becoming a big business. If you’ve been curious about what the stuff could do for your feline friend but you’re concerned about what might happen if things go wrong, this guide can help you make an informed choice that’s in the best interests of your cat.

What Is CBD Oil? Is It Legal?

Most people instinctively associate CBD oil with marijuana, causing them to assume that they’d be giving their cat an illegal drug. However, that’s not the case at all.

CBD stands for “cannabidiol,” which is a compound found in cannabis plants like hemp and marijuana. However, CBD affects the body much differently than THC does, which is the compound in marijuana responsible for making you feel high.

CBD doesn’t get you (or your cat) high. Instead, it can work as a neurotransmitter, causing your brain to release feel-good chemicals like dopamine.

Most commercially sold CBD oil is actually extracted from hemp, which has no psychoactive effects. In fact, in many states where CBD oil is legal, manufacturers are required by law to only use hemp-derived oil for this very reason.

CBD oil is usually legal in most places because it doesn’t meet any of the definitions of a controlled substance. Still, we urge you to check your local laws before making a purchase.

Is CBD Oil Safe for Cats?

As best we can tell, yes, CBD oil is safe for cats.

There hasn’t been much research done on the subject. Most large-scale studies have been performed on humans, and there have been a handful done on dogs, but virtually nothing on kitties.

However, given how popular CBD oil is becoming, we’re not seeing a sudden influx of CBD-related vet visits either. While this isn’t as conclusive as a peer-reviewed study, it does provide valuable circumstantial evidence in support of CBD oil’s safety.

That said, there are virtually no CBD oil products that have earned FDA approval, and the market is almost entirely unregulated. Even if CBD oil itself is safe, there could be all sorts of other things floating around in the oil that you bought from that shady site on the internet. Also, you’ll never really know if the bottle has the amount of CBD inside it that the manufacturer claims.

Your best bet is to stick to reputable sites with plenty of reviews and other social proof and follow the instructions that they provide to the letter. While it’s difficult for a cat to overdose on CBD oil, they can still suffer adverse health effects if they consume too much, so use it sparingly. It may also interfere with certain prescription medications, so discuss the matter with your vet before starting your cat on a CBD regimen. It’s also important to note that CBD oil for humans, though similar to those products for cats, is not the same and should not be used interchangeably.

What Are the Benefits of Giving CBD Oil to Cats?

We would like to reiterate that there are no studies backing any of this up. It’s based entirely on anecdotal data (albeit quite a bit of anecdotal data).

The biggest benefit that CBD oil offers is in treating anxiety. Cats that are given CBD oil are reportedly mellower and better able to deal with stressful situations. Some people give their cats CBD oil daily, which may be appropriate if you have a cat that’s generally anxious, while others only give it to their cats before a stressful situation, such as a vet visit.

It may also help with pain relief, especially arthritis pain. This may be due to the fact that it causes the cat’s brain to release feel-good neurochemicals, or it may be due to CBD oil’s reputation for fighting inflammation (or both). Whatever the cause, if you have a cat that’s chronically in pain, it may be worth looking into getting CBD oil for them.

CBD oil can also be used as an appetite stimulant. This is especially powerful for cats suffering through chemotherapy or similar treatments. The CBD oil may help reduce your kitty’s anxiety about the treatment while reducing their pain and bringing back their appetite — not bad for a single supplement.

There are other supposed benefits, like boosted immune support and seizure reduction. However, we urge you to not replace or supplement any of your cat’s existing medications with CBD oil without first discussing the matter with your vet.

How Do I Give My Cat CBD Oil?

CBD oil comes in various forms, including oils, chews, and even food toppers. The correct way to give it to your cat will vary depending on the form that you use.

Oil tends to be the most potent form of the stuff, but it’s also the messiest and hardest to dose. Many CBD oils are mixed with some sort of fish oil (such as sardine oil) to make it more palatable to your cat; if your kitty likes the taste, you may be able to just squirt some on their food. Otherwise, you’ll need to squirt it underneath their tongue, which is not an easy proposition.

There are also flavored chews available. Cats usually find these to be delicious, so you may be able to get them to actually thank you for giving them their supplement. However, given all the other ingredients that go into making a chew, this is usually the most diluted and least effective way to dose them.

Some manufacturers also make toppers that you can sprinkle on your cat’s food. This makes it easy to give them their oil, but as with the chews, you’ll be giving them a fairly diluted version of the stuff.

How Much CBD Oil Do I Give My Cat?

As a general rule, you should give your cat 1 to 5 mg of CBD oil per 10 pounds of body weight.

We’d recommend starting light, just to see how your cat responds to it. You can always increase to the maximum dosage later if need be, but you don’t want to overwhelm your cat right off the bat.

Keep in mind that the oil builds up in your pet’s system over time. That means it has a cumulative effect, so you might not see a big difference right away, but after a few weeks, the improvement can be profound. It’s all the more reason to start slowly and titrate up as needed.

If you’re giving CBD oil for your cat’s anxiety, though, the dosage may be different, especially if it’s going to be provided on an as-needed basis. In that case, it may make sense to give the maximum dose every time to be certain that your cat won’t be overwhelmed by a stressful situation.

Will You Give CBD Oil to Your Cat?

CBD oil is an exciting new product that may well have myriad benefits for cats, but as of now, the jury is still out. There simply isn’t enough concrete evidence to support all the claims that are made on its behalf, and it’s unlikely to be the wonder supplement that its proponents make it out to be.

On the other hand, it’s generally safe for cats, and there are thousands of pet owners who swear by the stuff, so you’re not risking much by trying it. It may just be the thing that your cat needs to live a happy, pain-free life.

There’s no right or wrong answer at this point, so weigh the pros and cons and decide for yourself. We can’t blame you for waiting for more science to roll in on the matter, but neither will we judge you for doing any and everything that you can to make sure your cat is happy and feels great all the time.

CBD oil is a natural and non-intoxicating substance that can be extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD oils contain concentrated cannabidiol, which when administered orally or through an inhaler, helps alleviate pain and inflammation.

CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids present in cannabis plants, but unlike THC (the cannabinoid responsible for getting people “high”), it does not produce any psychoactive effects. In fact, CBD has been shown to actually counteract some of the psychotic symptoms caused by THC exposure.

This makes it a useful therapeutic option for patients with severe forms of epilepsy who find relief from their seizures only when given CBD treatments alongside traditional anticonvulsant medications. It also helps relieve chronic pain without causing cognitive or psychoactive side effects.

CBD is also known to be useful in reducing muscle spasms and fighting certain autoimmune diseases. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help sufferers of arthritis reduce inflammation and ease their joint pain. Scientists believe it may also be effective at suppressing the growth of cancer cells.

In addition to being a health-boosting supplement, CBD has been found to have properties that can be used for cosmetic purposes as well. It moisturizes the skin and helps restore calmness in people who suffer from acne flare-ups. Since it helps treat psoriasis and eczema, CBD is also effective at combating dry skin and minimizing the appearance of fine lines.

CBD is a safe, non-addictive substance that can be used to alleviate aches and pains without causing any negative side effects. Patients have found it to be more effective at treating chronic pain than prescription painkillers, which are known to cause more severe withdrawal symptoms.

In addition to being an effective painkiller, it is also known to be a potent anti-inflammatory and can even reduce seizures caused by epilepsy. It works well on its own but has also shown positive results when it’s used in conjunction with traditional treatments for various different health conditions.

Not only can CBD oils help with pain & inflammation in 2022, but CBD products can help soothe skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne flare-ups, as well as relieve symptoms of autoimmune diseases. CBD is also effective at minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles without causing any psychoactive side effects or cognitive impairment associated with THC.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It’s one of the many chemical compounds found within marijuana known as cannabinoids, which are also found in other agricultural hemp products like hemp seeds and hemp oil. Cannabis is actually a combination of three distinct plants – cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, and a third lesser known plant called cannabis ruderalis.

CBD Oil is not psychoactive because it does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main compound responsible for the “high” that comes from smoking marijuana. However, CBD oil can be infused into different types of food, including candy, honey, gummies, and chocolate.

There are many benefits claimed for CBD oil. Some of these include helping with multiple sclerosis symptoms, treating chronic pain and inflammation, treating mental health conditions like stress and anxiety, fighting acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties, helping cancer patients with nausea and loss of appetite, improving heart health, and promoting better REM sleep.

Many people claim that CBD oil can be used as a natural pain reliever, antidepressant, stress reducer, and even as a potential cancer treatment. However, there aren’t many scientific research studies that back up these claims and the FDA has not approved the use of CBD oil for any medical condition. Currently, CBD oil is used as a food supplement that can be easily purchased online or from most health stores.

What’s the Difference Between CBD Oil and Hemp Seed Oil?

CBD oils made from hemp plants are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, other fatty acids that act as binding agents to help your body absorb more cannabinoids, other plant compounds such as terpenes, and vitamin E.

Hemp seed oil doesn’t contain CBD and is instead extracted from the seeds of hemp plants. This product has a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids than its CBD oil counterpart.

Hemp seed oil also contains high levels of the antioxidant compound vitamin E, but little cannabidiol. Hemp seed oil is best suited to cooking or topical applications.

Is CBD Oil Legal?

CBD oils are legal in all states and territories, provided the products contain less than 0.3 percent THC. As the laws surrounding cannabis continue to change, experts recommend checking the federal laws on cannabis-derived compounds like CBD oil before making any purchases.

Hemp-based CBD oil is legal in most countries worldwide, but THC-free marijuana-derived CBD oil may not be legal in some territories. Customers who want to purchase hemp-derived CBD oils should check their country’s laws before placing an order or traveling across the U.S. border to a different state with stricter laws on such products.

What does CBD oil do?

CBD oil works by activating the body’s serotonin (anti-depressant effect), vanilloid (pain relief), and adenosine (anti-inflammatory effect) receptors, while also antagonizing the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Because of the way CBD oil interacts with the brain’s natural chemistry, it’s said to have more of an effect on relieving chronic pain rather than just masking the symptoms like some pain medications do.

Many experts suggest that you start with a small dosage of CBD oil and remain consistent in taking it every day before you notice any effects. It’s also not recommended to stop taking your blood pressure medication, antidepressants, or anti-inflammatory medications before beginning CBD oil treatment – that could lead to unwanted side effects.

Where can you find CBD Oil?

You’ll have no trouble finding CBD oil online or in most drug stores across the country. However, you should always purchase CBD oil products from reputable companies that can provide you with lab reports. This is important because they will show the levels of potential contaminants like pesticides, which are normally used on hemp crops.

To avoid these impurities, many of the high-quality CBD oil companies use a supercritical CO2 extraction process that does not produce any significant heat and avoids using harsh chemicals that could damage the CBD molecules.

Once you’ve selected a CBD oil product ensure that you read all ingredients carefully to ensure your safety – some products contain a mixture of hemp oil and other essential oils, which could cause a negative reaction to those who are allergic.

What can I expect from using CBD Oil?

Because CBD oil has only been recently introduced, there aren’t many studies regarding the long-term effects of taking it. However, some individuals have reported feeling lightheaded or having an upset stomach when they first begin using CBD oil.

Some users have also noticed that they become drowsy shortly after taking their dosage, but this is a common side effect of most prescription painkillers like morphine and oxycodone as well.

There are reports of some users suffering from chronic anxiety or depression when they first began taking CBD oil, but the effects diminished over time.

There haven’t been any notable side effects reported for CBD oil thus far, but there are several precautions to take into consideration before using it:

Avoid taking CBD oil within a couple of hours of your bedtime – it may disrupt your sleep cycle.

People who have a family or personal history of psychosis should be especially careful about using CBD oil.

Make sure that you test any CBD oil product before ingesting it – some have been known to contain high levels of THC despite labeling itself as “pure CBD.”

Always purchase your CBD products from reputable stores or online merchants.

To be on the safe side, you might want to speak with your doctor before taking CBD oil.

How do you take CBD sublingually?

What Factors Can Cause Pain and Inflammation?

Before we dive too far into the topic of taking any of these recommended CBD oils for pain & inflammation in 2022, we wanted to share more about what factors can cause pain and inflammation to the human body:

Physical Injury

When you suffer a physical injury, it can cause your body to experience pain and inflammation. The injured tissues become stressed during this time because they are trying to heal themselves.

Chemical Stimulation

We also have chemical messages in our bodies that can cause us to feel pain or experience inflammation. These molecules are called neurotransmitters, and they manipulate the communication between our cells to produce pain. If these neurotransmitter levels get too high or too low, this can also cause pain and inflammation in your body.

In today’s busy world, it is not surprising to hear that a lot of people suffer from stress on a daily basis. This can cause chemical stimulation, which can lead to inflammation and pain.

Autoimmune Disorders

Unfortunately, some people may suffer from an autoimmune disorder that causes their body to attack itself. When this occurs, it is possible for the person to experience pain and inflammation as their immune system tries to fight off these attacks.

What’s The Best CBD For Pain & Inflammation?

In short, the best CBD oil for pain and inflammation is a product that works to help your body naturally manage these symptoms. They do this by influencing your body’s hormones, neurotransmitters, and immune system functions.

The key here is finding a brand of CBD oil that actually works for you. Take some time to read reviews and inquire with your doctor before you decide on a CBD oil for pain and inflammation.

If you are considering taking CBD oil for any of these conditions or symptoms, we recommend starting slowly at first so that your body can adjust to the effects. Then, gradually increase your dosage as needed until you find what works best for you.

How CBD can potentially help with pain and inflammation

The cells in our body react to pain or injury by releasing chemicals called cytokines. These cytokines signal the immune system to release proteins that cause inflammation, swelling, and other symptoms related to pain.

By taking CBD oil for pain and inflammation, you can help your natural immune response by stopping these signals before they are sent.

CBD oil can also help reduce your body’s production of cytokines, which will help prevent inflammation and swelling. This reduction in cytokine production is another way to manage pain and inflammation that naturally occur in the human body.

By using CBD for pain management you are also reducing the number of chemicals that can cause inflammation in your body. By improving your immune system’s response to inflammation, CBD oil for pain management has the potential to treat many types of chronic pains.

How to Take CBC Oil for Pain

There are numerous ways that you can consume CBD oil. Here is a list of the most popular:

Capsules & Edibles

This is one of the most popular and easiest ways to take CBD oil. Capsules come in a variety of sizes and strengths, depending on how much CBD you need. Many people also enjoy edibles for their convenience and simplicity.

CBD Tincture

A tincture is one of the quickest and easiest ways to incorporate CBD into your daily routine. These products typically come in small glass bottles with a dropper for easy dosing.

Sublingual

A sublingual tincture can be placed under your tongue for fast absorption. This method allows the CBD to travel directly into your bloodstream, making it effective immediately.

Topical Application

Finally, CBD oil can be applied topically for localized relief. Using a topical ointment or cream has many benefits that go beyond pain management. These areas are often where you experience some of your body’s biggest pains, so apply the oil directly here to reduce inflammation and swelling on the spot.

When Should You Take CBD?

If you are taking CBD oil for pain and inflammation, it is best to take your dosage at regular intervals throughout the day. Many people enjoy using their tincture or vape additive first thing in the morning as a way to start their day off on an elevated note.

Others prefer to use these methods before bed as a way to manage any aches or pains they experienced throughout the day.

What is the Best Dosage for CBD Oil?

The most popular way to take CBD oil is through capsules that are ingested orally. This is the most common dosage for CBD oil, and also the easiest to use if you are not familiar with tinctures.

For acute pain relief, it is best to start at 5-10mg of CBD per day. If this amount does not produce any noticeable changes in your symptoms, then try increasing to 15-25mg.

Lastly, topical ointments and creams should generally be used according to the directions and needs of the user. Topical CBD oil should never be used in place of traditional pain prescriptions.

CBD Oil for Pain: Side Effects & Precautions

While CBD oil is considered very safe, there are a few considerations to keep in mind when taking this or any other supplement. Always buy from a trusted source, and make sure that you are using pure CBD oil with 0% THC.

The use of cannabis is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Furthermore, children should never take CBD oil without the guidance of their doctor.

As always, talk to your doctor before taking any new supplements, especially if you have an existing medical condition.

As CBD is a relatively new supplement, there have not been any long-term studies done on the effects of taking this oil over the course of several years. While it is considered very safe, as with all things you put into your body it’s best to be cautious and informed.

In 2022, the world will know much more about the benefits and uses of CBD oil. As our understanding of this supplement grows, more manufacturers will start making pure CBD products available on a global scale.

While cannabis may still have some legal or social hurdles to overcome in many countries, the use of CBD oil for pain is an exciting and fast-growing market worldwide.

How to Select The Best CBD Oil For Your Pain & Inflammation in 2022

When looking for a CBD oil to help with pain and inflammation, it’s important to select a product that is high quality and has been tested for purity. It’s also important to make sure that the CBD oil has been extracted using a method that allows for fast absorption, such as using carrier oils or vape additives.

It’s best to start with a low dosage of CBD oil and increase gradually if needed until you find the dosage that works best for you. CBD oil can be taken orally, smoked, or applied topically.

There are many ways to take CBD oil, but be sure to follow the directions on your product for optimal results.

As CBD becomes more popular worldwide, manufacturers will develop new products that increase the bioavailability of their capsules or tinctures. This means that you’ll need less CBD oil in each serving size for it to have an impact on your pain and inflammation.

In 2022, CBD oil will most likely remain a popular choice for easing aches and pains due to its fast-acting, long lasting effects. The demand for CBD oil products will likely increase as more states legalize cannabis and consumers look for a safer alternative to opioid painkillers.

Does Taking CBD Get You High?

No! CBD oil products will not get you high, as they contain almost no THC, which is the chemical responsible for the “high” produced by traditional marijuana use.

Even though it is possible to become psychologically addicted to cannabis use, addiction-related to CBD oil use is extremely rare and unlikely.

What is the Difference Between Hemp-Derived vs Marijuana-Derived CBD Oil?

CBD oils made from marijuana plants are also low in THC. But unlike hemp-derived CBD oil, marijuana-derived CBD products may contain more psychoactive compounds like THC, which could induce feelings of sleepiness and euphoria.

Marijuana-derived CBD oil is best for customers who prefer a product with a high THC content or want to experience a “high.”

What Are The Benefits Of CBD Oil?

CBD oil works similarly to other pain medications, but without the unwanted side effects. Though not widely understood by the public, CBD has been found to have many medical benefits, including reducing inflammation and acting as an anti-inflammatory agent itself.

Topical CBD oils are also available for those who want localized relief from arthritis or other inflammatory conditions.

The most common benefits of CBD oil include:

Anti-inflammatory properties that reduce pain and swelling

Fast acting, providing quick relief from chronic or acute disorders

Can be used in conjunction with other therapies to increase the effectiveness of treatment for certain conditions

CBD Oil Legal Status Worldwide

CBD oil is legal throughout much of the world, but it is still considered a controlled substance in many countries.

In some areas of the United States, CBD oil can be purchased at local health food stores. If you live in a state where CBD is not legal, however, you may have to travel outside your city or state to purchase it.

CBD oil can also be purchased online and shipped to customers in most areas of the United States, Canada, and Australia. If you live outside these countries, ask your local health food store about CBD products or find a shop online that can legally ship CBD oils for pain & inflammation in 2022 to your region of the world.

Is Hemp Oil and CBD oil the same?

Hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same, and hemp oil does not contain significant amounts of CBD.

While hemp oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and has many health benefits, it’s best known for its ability to improve skin health by hydrating dry, flaky areas such as the elbows and knees – rather than for treating issues such as inflammation and arthritis.

CBD oil is much more potent than hemp oil and does contain high levels of CBD, though it’s worth noting that the other components in cannabis plants, such as THC and terpenes, can also affect your health when combined with CBD.

Different Types of CBD Oil Extracts Are Available

As CBD oil becomes more popular, manufacturers will create new product types with advanced delivery methods to increase bioavailability and reduce negative side effects.

Full Spectrum

As you explore different CBD oil products, you may notice that many are labeled as full spectrum CBD. This means that the extract contains all of the compounds in the hemp plant, including trace amounts of terpenes and cannabinoids such as THC.

Although not to be confused with CBD isolate, full-spectrum CBD does contain small levels of THC to produce the entourage effect.

Because of this, you may experience mild side effects such as feeling tired or groggy after using full-spectrum CBD oil.

Broad Spectrum

Unlike full spectrum oils, pure CBD oil contains only CBD and is free from THC and other trace compounds found in cannabis plants. Since no extra ingredients are added during production, these CBD oils are ideal for customers who prefer the taste of pure oil. There’s also no risk of feeling tired or groggy.

CBD Isolate

CBD oil products labeled as CBD isolate contain 99 percent CBD and less than 0.3 percent THC, making it ideal for those who prefer a pure extract without any additional active compounds.

Efficacy of CBD Oils

CBD oils work best when they contain both omega-3 fatty acids and other fatty acids that act as binding agents to help your body absorb more cannabinoids.

These fatty acids include monounsaturated oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, and stearidonic acid.

The presence of these binding agents makes CBD oil easier for your body to absorb – which means you’ll need smaller doses to experience the same effects as larger amounts of oils with alternative delivery methods.

CBD oils may also contain added terpenes and a wide range of plant extracts designed to enhance bioavailability and produce additional benefits. While many hemp-derived products have high levels of cannabidiol, you should be aware that these ingredients can also contain trace amounts of THC.

Because some CBD products are produced from cannabis plants, the resulting oils may contain small amounts of THC – even if they don’t contain psychoactive ingredients that would produce a “high.” This is fine for most customers who do not have THC allergies or preferences.

Make Use of The Right Dosage Amount

Different CBD oils have different purposes and effects, so it’s best to buy a small amount of CBD oil to determine whether you feel any positive results. It’s also important not to exceed the recommended dosage as too much CBD can be counter-productive.

The dosages for each product vary by manufacturer and range from as little as 20mg per day to up to 1,000mg per day. Refer to the product’s label for specific dosage instructions and information. You can also read reviews from fellow users of CBD oil products, which will provide you with a wider range of experiences and opinions on each product.

What Ingredients Should I Watch Out For in CBD Oils?

The FDA does not regulate CBD oil products. But like other dietary supplements, it recommends consulting with a physician before using any hemp-derived CBD oils to treat medical conditions or to determine dosage amounts.

We also recommend checking the ingredient lists for each product you plan on purchasing at your local store and searching for information about how the product might interfere with other medications you’re taking or how it might interact with existing medical conditions.

In all honesty, if you’re searching for CBD oils for pain & inflammation in 2022 then you’ll want to make sure that there is no more than .3% THC in any of the CBD oils you’re buying. This will ensure you’re less likely to get a “high” from the oils, instead you’ll gain the most out of the medical or therapeutical properties of the CBD oils.

How Can I Find the Best CBD Oil?

CBD oil is gaining more and more recognition every day as a potential treatment for many different ailments. In order to determine which product would be best for you, consider your needs and lifestyle before making any purchase.

CBD oil products are available for purchase online through websites, but customers should have a firm understanding of what to look for before making any purchases.

Research and reviews of CBD oil products are also available through online resources such as the Hemp Business Journal, Leafly, and Project CBD.

How Can I Get Started With CBD Oil?

If you’re considering buying a CBD oil product, the first thing you should do is speak with your doctor to ensure it’s safe for you to use and understand all of the potential benefits of CBD oil.

After speaking with your doctor, you should visit each of the CBD brands’ websites to research more about hemp-derived CBD oils and products available for purchase. Since regulations vary from state to state, make sure to check state laws before making any purchases online.

How do you use CBD oil topically for pain?

CBD oil can be used topically for pain relief in a variety of ways. You can rub CBD oil directly onto the skin where you’re experiencing pain, or you can add it to your favorite lotion or cream to help with absorption.

Another option for using CBD oil topically is to use the CBD oil as a moisturizer or apply it directly to an injury if you’re suffering from joint or muscle pain.

Another reason that people enjoy applying CBD oil topically is because of its soothing effects on the skin and how it can help reduce inflammation. It’s even able to penetrate deep layers of stubborn skin tissue, which can help your muscles and joints better absorb the natural oils.

Each type of CBD oil has its own benefits and offers different possibilities for pain relief. The use, application method, supply, and dosage are all factors that have a bearing on how CBD can help with the pain.

While there are fewer documented cases of side effects from using CBD oil topically, it’s still possible that you could have an allergic reaction or suffer from an unknown irritation while applying CBD oil to affected areas.

Does CBD oil relax muscles?

Many people who use CBD oil and other hemp products believe that the product has a calming effect on the muscles and nerves. While research into how CBD affects connective tissue cells is ongoing, we do know that it interacts at least partially with receptors in the immune system as well as receptors throughout the endocrine and nervous system.

Mast cells make gluten-associated antibodies in response to certain foods like dairy and peanut, which is why some people are highly sensitive to trace amounts of certain foods.

CBD may have a similar effect on mast cells, which can regulate pain and inflammation by stimulating histamine release. By activating or blocking the receptors of neurotransmitters, CBD oil might be able to help reduce inflammation and relax muscles.

How long does it take for CBD oil topicals to work?

The length of time that it takes for CBD oil topicals to start working depends on the application. Creams and lotions will take longer because they need to fully absorb into your skin before you’ll begin to feel their effects, but sublingual tinctures are absorbed into the blood stream almost immediately.

Can I use other pain medications with CBD?

Currently, there aren’t many studies looking at the interaction between CBD and other pain medications. While many people believe that CBD can help relieve some of the pain, it’s important to remember that using any type of new medication without first consulting with your doctor could have serious consequences.

Most doctors will tell you not to mix CBD with other prescription painkillers without first discussing the potential risks. If you’re using both types of medication, ask your doctor if there are any interactions that may be dangerous for your health.

How much CBD should I take?

While it’s possible to take too much CBD oil, the safe upper limit of the product seems to be around 1mg per kilogram of your body weight. While that amount is considered safe for most people, it may still cause problems in smaller or younger individuals.

When taking any type of CBD oil, it’s important to take only the recommended dosage and use the product as directed on the package label. Because everyone’s biochemistry is slightly different, it’s possible that your body may not respond to CBD oil in the same manner as someone else.

If you’re taking any medication other than CBD oil, talk to your doctor about how much CBD you should take and how often you should use it. It’s also important to remember that using other medications with CBD oil may have unexpected consequences.

The same is true of CBD oil and other hemp products such as edibles and extracts, which can alter the effects of either substance on your body when taken together.

CBD seems to be a fairly safe product with few interactions when used properly, but it’s always best to talk to your doctor before beginning to use any new medication or natural remedy.

Best CBD Oil for Pain Relief & Inflammation: Highest Quality Brands On The Market

Over the past three years, CBD oil has become increasingly popular as a health and wellness supplement.

One of the main reasons people are interested in trying CBD oil is because of its pain-killing benefits. We’ll get into the details of how CBD is suggested to help with pain later, along with some suggestions for the best CBD oils for pain and inflammation.

The ability for CBD to help with pain is a significant advantage over conventional pain management options — which often involve addictive and potentially harmful medications. Instead, this natural supplement has very few side effects and an exceptional safety profile — all without compromising on effectiveness.

But how do you choose the right CBD oil for the job?

This is an important question to ask because the truth of the matter is that not all CBD oils work. Many simply contain too little CBD to be of any help, while others contain harmful contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides, or chemical solvents — all of which could add to the pain you’re already experiencing by damaging the sensitive nerve cells around the body.

We’re going to cover all of this in the article below. You’ll learn how to spot a high-quality CBD oil and how current evidence shows CBD to work inside the body.

This is a big topic, so let’s get started with our list of top-rated CBD oils for pain.

Top 10 Best CBD Oil Brands for Pain Management in 2022

Not sure which CBD oil to buy to help with chronic pain? Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how CBD is suggested to work for pain and inflammation, here’s our top 5 list of CBD oils I’ve used myself for back pain.

We’ll also offer some advice on a few ways you can spot a trustworthy CBD vendor even if they didn’t quite make it onto our list.

I’ve been using CBD for over 5 years now and I’ve stumbled upon some stellar companies with top-notch oils and fly-by-night businesses with oils that can’t simply don’t work.

I have a relatively short list of CBD brands that I fully trust and I want to share my choices with you so you can avoid some of the headaches and disappointment I’ve already endured.

Here are my top 10 CBD oil brands for pain:

1. Royal CBD (Best CBD Oil On The Market)

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 250 – 2500 mg
Available Flavors Natural, Mint, Vanilla, Berry
Potency 8.3 – 83.3 mg/mL

Get 15% off all Royal CBD products. Use code “CFAH” at checkout.

Why Royal CBD is My Top Pick:

As skeptical as I am towards the majority of new CBD brands, I decided to give Royal CBD a try because I liked the company’s dedication to quality. I love seeing companies that take what they do seriously.

You can tell right away from the color, flavor, and consistency of the oil that you’re dealing with a product well above average.

This oil is cheaper than most of the other premium CBD oils I’ve tried, comes in a full range of potencies, and uses some of the best full-spectrum hemp extracts I’ve ever seen. I’ve heard friends using this brand for quite some time and decided to give it a try for myself — so I ordered a few bottles in different strengths.

After taking the Royal CBD’s 2500mg full-spectrum CBD oil for just over a week, I noticed an improvement in my back pain. There was a time when I had serious problems falling asleep because of the sharp pains in my back that seemed to intensify whenever I laid down to fall asleep. It was a nightmare. I’d lay awake for hours changing positions to try and find a spot that didn’t leave me writhing in discomfort.

With this oil, my experience went far beyond what I expected. Not only did it help ease the pain, but my overall quality of sleep improved. I mean, I didn’t sleep longer but I began to wake up rested and with a clear head.

My favorite combination for this particular oil is the vanilla in the 1000 mg bottle. This is the largest potency option currently offered by Royal CBD and has the best value overall. I took the oil twice per day, once in the morning when I woke up, and again in the evening before bed. One bottle of the 1000 mg CBD oil lasted me about a month.

  • Sourced from US-grown organic hemp
  • Extracted with supercritical CO2
  • Contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes
  • Available in 4 different strengths
  • Up to 2500mg of CBD per bottle
  • Lab-tested for potency and purity
  • Great natural flavors (no aftertaste and comes in multiple flavor options)
  • Free shipping within the USA
  • Newer brand on the market that only sells online, no physical presence

2. Gold Bee (Best Organic CBD Oil)

  • Premium Colorado-grown hemp
  • CO2 extraction
  • Contains full-spectrum CBD
  • Delicious kiwi flavor
  • Sweetened with organic honey
  • Lab-tested for potency and purity
  • Only one flavored option available
  • No high-strength oils (yet)

What I Like About Gold Bee:

I honestly believe Gold Bee makes the best organic CBD products out there. The brand combines premium Colorado-grown hemp with organic honey sourced from the Brazillian Rainforest. While Gold Bee offers a modest selection of oils — with up to 1200 mg of CBD per bottle — the formula is spot-on when it comes to the quality of ingredients. I’m totally not going to complain about the potency, as my back pain and sleep quality got better than with some high-strength oils I’ve tried in the past. Considering the quality of these products, they actually come at a bargain price. If you want to try other formats from Gold Bee, you can choose between its high-strength capsules and CBD-infused honey.

3. CBDPure (Runner Up)

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 100 – 600 mg
Available Flavors None
Potency 1.6 – 10 mg/mL
What I Like About CBDPure CBD Oil:

I love how transparent this company is. If I were judging companies solely by their transparency level, CBDPure would have scored the second place, right after Royal CBD. The company provides all the details about each stage of production when making this CBD oil. You can find all the third-party lab test results for each batch on the product page — something we’ve come to expect from any high-quality CBD company.

What really makes this company stand out is its incredible satisfaction guarantee. If you order the product and decide it wasn’t working for you, simply send it back and get a full refund. This satisfaction guarantee extends over 3 whole months — which is about three times longer than the industry average.

I keep a bottle or two of CBDPure oil in my medicine cabinet for achy moments after a run or hike with the kids.

The only real downside to this oil is the potency — which comes in denominations of 1.5, 5, and 10 mg/mL. This is suitable for more minor symptoms, but may not be enough for people with heavy CBD demands.

  • Sourced from Colorado-grown organic hemp
  • Extracted with supercritical CO2
  • Tested for the cannabinoid content and purity in a third-party lab
  • Rock-solid 90-day return policy
  • Narrow product range
  • Low potency
  • They don’t ship to every state (i.e. Louisiana, Indiana, Arkansas, Kansas)

4. HempBombs

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 300 – 4000 mg
Available Flavors Unflavored, Acai Berry, Orange Creamsicle, Peppermint, Watermelon
Potency 10 – 133.3 mg/mL
What I Like About HempBombs:

I used HempBombs CBD isolate-based hemp oil for quite some time before switching to full-spectrum CBD oil and in my opinion, this is the best brand when it comes to CBD isolates. Their products contain 99% pure CBD and ZERO THC.

Now don’t get me wrong, CBD isolates are great, they offer consistent doses of CBD, contain 0% THC, and are generally cheaper than their full-spectrum counterparts. In most cases, I like using a full-spectrum extract like Royal CBD oil because of something called the entourage effect — which is a concept highlighting the phenomenon where cannabinoids like CBD tend to work better when other hemp-derived compounds are also present.

In isolates, the only cannabinoid present is CBD.

HempBombs CBD oil is available in five different strengths — from 300mg to 4000mg per bottle. The CBD is added in the form of a 99% pure isolate — which means there’s going to be virtually no traceable amounts of any other cannabinoids, including THC, CBC, CBG, or CBN.

You can also buy these oils in different flavors. Hemp Bombs often adds new flavors to the list, but my all-time personal favorite is the Acai berry. It’s not too sweet but adds a really pleasant flavor to the otherwise bland CBD and MCT oil formula.

  • Sourced from 100% certified organic hemp from European farms
  • Extracted with supercritical CO2
  • Completely THC-free
  • Tested in third-party laboratories for purity and potency
  • Available in 5 separate strengths
  • Up to 4000mg of CBD per bottle
  • Lacks the synergistic effects from other cannabinoids
  • The highest potencies are overkill for most users
  • Uses synthetic flavoring agents

5. CBDistillery

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 250 – 5000 mg
Available Flavors None
Potency 8.3 – 166 mg/mL
What I Like About CBDistillery:

CBDistillery is now one of the largest CBD companies in North America. The company began in 2016 as a legacy brand for Balanced Health Botanicals.

Over the years, CBDistillery has had the chance to really dial-in its CBD oil formula. The company now sells its CBD oil in two formats — “full-spectrum” and “THC-free.” The THC-free option is great for people who want to benefit from the synergy of CBD and other cannabinoids but without bringing any THC whatsoever into their system.

Even the full-spectrum option contains less than 0.3% THC — which is well below the amount needed to cause any psychoactive effects. These oils are both completely non-psychoactive.

You can choose between five different strengths, starting at 250mg up to 5000mg of CBD per bottle. This covers just about every range of potencies you would ever need. We recommend opting for the higher potency options because they have the best value overall. The higher potency you purchase, the further your dollar gets you.

The more potent options also las the longest because you need smaller amounts of the oil each time to get the desired dose of CBD.

I tried the 1000mg bottle to keep myself calm during the first few months after giving birth to my first son and I must admit it helped me maintain my sanity during that time. I found it to have a remarkable calming effect on the body and mind.

  • Available as full-spectrum CBD or pure CBD oil (THC-free)
  • 5 strengths to choose from
  • Carries up to 33.3 mg of CBD per mL (in the 1000 mg bottle)
  • Excellent value CBD oil
  • The hemp isn’t certified organic
  • No flavor options available
  • The company website is clunky and hard to navigate

6. NuLeaf Naturals

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 240 – 4850 mg
Available Flavors None
Potency 48.5 mg/mL
What I Like About NuLeaf Naturals

Nuleaf Naturals is one of the most popular CBD companies in the United States — most likely related to how long the company has been in the business of selling CBD. Nuleaf naturals were one of the first CBD companies to enter the mainstream market.

Despite the companies longstanding reputation, Nuleaf Naturals only sells one CBD oil. When you go to the website you’ll find a few different options, including a pet oil — but it’s important to understand that these are all the exact same full-spectrum extract, the only difference is the bottle sizes.

We love the simplicity of Nuleaf Naturals product lineup. The oils come with a decent potency of around 48 mg/mL, and just about every bottle size you can imagine. This makes it easy for everybody to find a product that works for them regardless of the budget.

With that said, if you have the cash, we highly recommend getting the larger bottle sizes in order to get the best value for your money.

You can choose between five different sizes:

  • Sourced from organic Colorado-grown hemp
  • Extracted using supercritical CO2
  • Made from a full-spectrum hemp extract
  • More expensive than the other brands in this ranking
  • Narrow product range

7. Charlotte’s Web

Technical Details
Total CBD Content 200 – 1800 mg
Available Flavors Mint Chocolate, Lemon Twist, Orange Blossom, Olive Oil
Potency 7 – 60 mg/mL

About Charlotte’s Web:

Charlotte’s Web is one of the pioneers in the American CBD industry. Established by the Stanley Brothers, the company has coined a reputation of a trustworthy manufacturer by helping now late Charlotte Figi with her treatment-resistant epilepsy. CBD Oil for Pain Management: Complete Guide for Beginners

Now that we’ve covered a few CBD oil options that are going to provide the best value for your money, let’s discuss how CBD is suggested to support chronic pain in the first place. We’ll also cover some of the most common ways people are using CBD oil for pain.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD stands for cannabidiol _ it’s one of the primary active ingredients in the cannabis plant. It’s completely non-psychoactive and offers a wide range of benefits to the human body.

CBD oil is a combination of a CBD extract, with a carrier oil to help dissolve and store the CBD. Most CBD oils use carrier oils like MCT oil, or hemp seed oil — which is then combined with CBD isolate, or full-spectrum hemp extract rich in CBD and other similar cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids like CBD are fat-soluble — which means they dissolve when mixed with oil, but won’t dissolve in water. By dissolving these compounds in an oil solution, the CBD becomes much easier to store and use. Instead of measuring out micrograms of CBD crystals or hemp resin, all you need to do is measure oil to get your dose of CBD. This can be done using a simple dropper that comes standard with most CBD oils.

Because of their ease of use, and long shelf-life, CBD oils have become the go-to method of using CBD and other hemp extracts.

You can also opt-out to use CBD-infused gummies if you wanted something discreetly, read our in-depth review on CBD Gummies to understand better.

How Does CBD Work?

Cannabis has been used for managing pain and inflammation for thousands of years.

The earliest records of the medical use of the herb date back to ancient China when the emperor Shen-Nung placed it among other therapeutic substances in the Chinese pharmacopeia (1). The leaves were wrapped around an injury as a poultice to reduce pain and discomfort, and reverse swelling and bruising.

Despite being a known medicine for a long time, scientists have only recently begun to unlock the mechanisms cannabis uses to achieve its important pain-killing benefits.

Since the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in 1992, CBD and other phytocannabinoids have been in the spotlight of modern medicine.

The endocannabinoid system is one of the most important neurochemical networks in the human body (2). It works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system — a series of hormones and receptors that help regulate over a dozen core processes in the human body. The active compounds in the cannabis plant are very similar to the naturally-produced hormones involved with our endocannabinoid system.

By interacting with the endocannabinoid system, CBD and other cannabinoids are able to modulate several key processes, such as:

  • Appetite
  • Immune function
  • Memory
  • Mood
  • Stress
  • Sensory perception (including pain)
  • Inflammation
  • Reproductive health
  • Nerve function
  • Sleep

How Can CBD Reduce Pain Transmission?

How does all of this relate to pain? The answer lies in the way pain is transmitted to the brain.

When we injure ourselves, cells in the immediate vicinity begin releasing compounds that trigger a cascade of inflammation and sensory activation — which is what triggers the pain transmission.

The pain signal is then sent to the spinal cord through a network of nerves distributed all around the body.

Once in the spine, the pain signal is sent through a gateway (opioid and vanilloid receptors) designed to limit the amount of signal that ends up in the brain for processing. This works like a border crossing. The border security decides whether or not you’re allowed to enter and what you can take with you.

In the context of pain, these gateways can limit the amount of pain signal that continues across the border to the brain. If more pain signal is allowed to pass, the brain perceives more pain. If the pain is stopped at the border, the brain perceives less pain.

Conventional pain medications work by activating the opioid receptors acting as a key gateway for pain transmission to the brain.

CBD has a similar effect, but through a different receptor is known as the vanilloid receptors. These vanilloid receptors are tasked with regulating a specific form of pain caused by either heat or inflammation. CBD has been reported to modulate this vanilloid receptor — leading to a reduction in the pain signals sent to the brain from inflammatory causes such as arthritis, muscle damage, or infection, to name a few.

CBD has other ways it can limit pain transmission as well:

  • CBD may reduce inflammation, limiting the initial cause of pain in the body
  • CBD acts as an antioxidant, helping the body resist and recover from damage
  • CBD relaxes muscle fibers, reducing pain caused by muscle spasms and tightness

More research is needed to fully understand how CBD and other active cannabinoids can block pain. Every year dozens of new research papers are published in an attempt to paint a clear picture of how CBD works, how to get the most benefit from the supplement, and what its limitations are.

Choosing CBD Oil Companies: How to Differentiate the Good From the Bad

CBD has become a lucrative business. Companies are selling a myriad of different CBD oils and other products in an attempt to cash in on the new health trend. This means there are a lot of excellent products coming to market, but it also means there’s a lot of trash as well. It’s important as a CBD user that you understand what makes a CBD oil good, and what makes it bad so you can avoid wasting your money, or worse — using CBD oils that contain harmful or damaging ingredients.

Let’s cover the most important points to remember when shopping for CBD oil online or in-store.

1. Check the Hemp Source

The source of the hemp used to make the oil is vitally important when it comes to determining which CBD oils are the best. The main reason comes down to the botany of the hemp plant itself.

Hemp is a bio-accumulator — which means it has the tendency to absorb compounds from the soil and accumulate them in its leaves, stems, and roots. The deep taproots of the hemp plant stretch far beneath the soil, pulling out and storing all the heavy metals and other elements it can find in the soil.

This aspect is in part why hemp is so nutritious, but it also means that plants grown in contaminated soils often contain contaminants that can be harmful to your health. Some of the worst offenders are heavy metals — which can build up in the body over time and lead to severe long-term health effects.

You want to avoid consuming heavy metals at all costs.

Poorly grown hemp could contain heavy metals, as well as other contaminants like mycotoxins, or pesticide residues that will end up in the CBD oil after all the processing is complete.

For this reason, it’s important to purchase CBD oil from companies that account for this effect. Only buy from company’s that make an effort to source hemp from organic farms, and take measures to assess every batch of hemp that enters the facility to determine heavy metal, microbial contaminant, and pesticide contamination.

The best hemp sources tend to come from states like Oregon, Colorado, or Alabama, as well as neighboring countries like Canada or Scandinavian countries. These places are all known for having high standards for hemp cultivation, and clean soils.

2. Look for CO2 Extracted Products

Once the company has the hemp, they need to extract the CBD from it. You can do this in many different ways using solvents like ethanol, methanol, hexane, ether, or butane. All of these solvents work to strip the active compounds from the hemp plant and can then be evaporated to leave behind a pure CBD-rich resin.

however, there’s a problem with these solvents.

Even in professional lab settings, it can be very difficult to remove all traces of these solvents from the final product. Most of these solvents are toxic to the human body, even in trace amounts.

Therefore, the best companies are using another method to strop the active ingredients from the starting hemp material. This method uses CO2 placed under high pressure. the high pressure and temperature control convert the CO2 into a phase that’s neither liquid nor gas. This special state is referred to as being supercritical.

Supercritical CO2 acts just like any other solvent, but with one key benefit — as soon as the pressure is relieved, the gas evaporates completely, leaving behind no harmful chemical residues.

when shopping for CBD oil, it’s ideal to look for a company that uses supercritical CO2 to extract the CBD rather than the toxic solvents mentioned above. Supercritical CO2 is very expensive and highly technical — but usually produces a far superior product in the end.

If a company is using harsh solvents like butane or propane (or they don’t tell you anything about their extraction methods), it’s a sign that you should look for another brand.

3. Ask for Third-Party Lab Reports

Every company has the option to send their products to an independent lab or third-party testing.

These laboratory tests check for the entire cannabinoid profile of the extract and are able to detect over 200 common contaminants.

Before a CBD product becomes available for sale, it should pass the laboratory test for potency and purity. If any inconsistencies are shown between different batches of the same product, the company should rework it and send it for analysis once again.

High-quality CBD companies will continually send each batch of product to a lab with no affiliation to the company (called a third-party or independent lab) for testing. These results are then published publicly on the website for customers to view.

The best companies will take this even one step further — adding a database and batch numbers on every bottle of CBD oil so you can view the results for your specific bottle of oil. Third-party testing is now an industry standard.

Always buy your CBD oil from companies that show third-party lab reports on their website. Only then will you know what’s inside the bottle before you even order a product. If the company is producing CBD oil that’s as high quality, as they say, there should be nothing to hide in these lab tests and they should be listed publicly on the company website. If you can’t find them on the site, you can ask customer service for these as well.

If these tests don’t exist, or you can’t track them down from the website or customer service — it’s best to avoid this company and move on to another that takes this important step seriously.

What the Research Says About Using CBD Oil for Pain:

Understanding how CBD works is no simple task. This compound is incredibly complex — working through a number of unrelated receptors around the body, interacting with enzymes, cell membranes, and various other cell structures. This makes studying CBD very difficult.

Nevertheless, there have been thousands of research papers published on medical marijuana — seeking to understand the interaction between cannabinoids like CBD and the human body. A lot of this research specifically focused on the effects of CBD on various forms and causes of pain. Let’s explore some of the results this research has yielded in the context of pain management.

1. CBD Oil for Chronic Back & Nerve Pain

The painkilling properties of cannabidiol have been most thoroughly studied in animal models, as well as a handful of human clinical trials.

One of the best studies we have available on the topic is a meta-analysis published in 2017. This analysis looked at 24 different clinical trials involving 1,334 patients over several years and demographics. These studies all used various forms of cannabis for treating chronic pain. The analysis reports that many of these studies showed a reduction in chronic pain scores by 50% or more (3) — suggesting the cannabis plant to be a potential treatment for chronic pain.

Another clinical trial looked at the effects of a combination of CBD to THC in the treatment of intractable cancer pain. This study found that twice as many people in the treatment group given CBD and THC had a 30% or more reduction in pain symptoms at the conclusion of the trial (6).

Even though more clinical trials on humans are needed to gauge how CBD affects specific forms of pain or other conditions, scientists believe the efficacy of CBD in treating chronic pain is related to its anti-inflammatory effects (3).

2. CBD Oil for Arthritis

CBD has had a lot of research as a potential alternative to prescription and non-prescription pain medications commonly used for alleviating arthritis pain.

Researchers have found a clear link between the endocannabinoid system and the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative joint disease associated with chronic pain and inflammation (4).

One of the key areas CBD is thought to support osteoarthritis specifically is through the effects on an enzyme known as 5-lipoxygenase — AKA 5-LOX. CBD has been shown to inhibit this enzyme (7), which converts fatty acids into pro-inflammatory compounds. These inflammatory messengers have been shown to be a key component in the underlying inflammation involved with osteoarthritis (8).

By reducing the underlying causes of arthritis pain, CBD is thought to reduce the overall burden of pain from the condition over the long term.

3. CBD and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Pain

Due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD is a potent neuroprotective — which is how experts believe CBD is able to relieve debilitating MS pain, —which affects roughly 50–70% of patients diagnosed with the condition.

A study conducted on animals at Cajan Institute tested the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD on mice the researchers wanted to find out if CBD can provide a reversed inflammatory response on those cells. After ten days, the researchers found a reduction in inflammatory markers with a rodent encephalitis model designed to imitate the impact MS has on the body (5).

More research is needed to see exactly how these effects are translated to humans. Currently, there are 23 clinical trials currently underway, or planned within the next 12 months seeking to explore the effects of CBD on MS.

4. CBD Oil in Sports: Injuries & Muscle Endurance

Cannabidiol can be applied in two different ways when it comes to pain and physical activities. For example, when you administer CBD orally in the form of oil as a post-workout, it helps alleviate the muscle inflammation that troubles athletes once they go beyond the edge again.

If, however, you’re suffering from an injury, it’s best to apply CBD topically. Its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties allow the cannabinoid to relieve pain and improve regeneration capacities.

Does CBD Have Any Side Effects?

The main reason why parents are so enthusiastic about CBD is that this cannabinoid is completely non-intoxicating, doesn’t cause addiction, and has only a few mild side effects when taken at excessive doses.

Research shows that even doses up to one and a half grams have no severe side effects on human health (9).

Despite being a notoriously safe supplement, there are some side effects of using CBD in high doses. Let’s cover the most common side effects people report from using CBD:

  • Anxiety
  • Brain fog
  • Reduced appetite
  • Mood changes
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Drowsiness or fatigue
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea and vomiting

The most common side effect by far, like other forms of cannabis, is dry mouth. This is best managed by taking your CBD oil along with some juice like pineapple or orange juice.

Another common side effect is lowered blood pressure, which may trigger another unwanted reaction — lightheadedness. This side effect is important to consider if you suffer from low blood pressure already or are taking blood pressure-lowering medications.

Always consult your doctor before using CBD or other cannabis extracts if you’re taking prescription medications or have underlying medical conditions.

In Summary: Buying CBD Oil For Pain

As CBD becomes more popular around the world, scientists are publishing new research on cannabinoids on a near-weekly basis. As time goes on, experts are mapping out the complicated mechanisms CBD and other hemp derivatives are using to support both acute and chronic pain of all different origins.

Here are the main takeaways from the current research:

  • CBD inhibits inflammation at several different levels
  • CBD offers antioxidant support
  • CBD may relieve muscle tension and inflammation
  • CBD interacts with the vanilloid receptors in the brain responsible for regulating inflammatory pain transmission

When it comes to pain, CBD appears to target the cause of the problem instead of just masking its symptoms.

Getting relief on so many levels and without any harmful side effects or risk of addiction is the reason why CBD oil has become so popular over the past half a decade.

I hope this guide has managed to clear up any confusion regarding CBD oil and pain, and given you the insight necessary to find the right CBD oil for the job.
